I’ve just collected all the new pulleys and whilst there I showed them the wobbly one in the picture they agreed there was way too much movement and on swapping for a genuine it was rock solid, and they agreed with me this was the likely cause of the belt being thrown, I’ve emailed AF and told them this and asked for a full refund of this defective part and the two belts, I’ve also asked for my lost days wages not sure how this stands legally but if I’d have paid a garage to do it it would cost a lot more, and I would be chasing for that to be covered

I’ll wait and see there response 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

I would be chasing all the money for all of the pulleys if you’re swapping all back to genuine. They are useless to you or anyone else. I hope mine hold up. I’m so paranoid about it right now.

Has anyone else fitted these pulleys from af with any issues? Just out of curiosity 2016 4.4 diesel

Well that’s not gone to plan, ffs 😡😡😡 changed everything for genuine parts and it’s gone again I’m stumped, I checked everything was running smoothly, I watched the belt on tickover and going through the revs for 15 mins all sweet, I did some short runs and checked all sweet, drove to work to pick up the trailer tent, jumped out of car and an almighty racket main belt gone again 😡😡😡😡😡 I’m totaly lost now as to what is causing this I checked all ancillary pulleys etc all ran smooth no movement at all the engine sounds sweet the only thing I did before the belt when the first time was to change the battery and tell the car I’ve got no charging issues no fault codes, any one got any ideas as I’m meant o be going away for whit week but after three belts I’m at my white end 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be, but can you manage to get a straight edge and make sure all the pulley faces are aligned?
I can remember reading about a modified bracket for the alternator or fan bracket a while back. Might be worth a search.

I tested everything was spinning freely all bolts were tight nothing seemed loose only thing that is a constant is the engine was just above tickover, I 1st time I had drove 100 yards slowed due not turn and the main belt shredded the small snapped, then after replacing the parts I drove 2 miles again slowed down for a junction main belt went small belt ok, then after fitting genuine parts I drove 14 miles to work stoped then stated abs left it on tickover whilst I put the trailer on then it went making a awfull racket, ac was working fine alternator pulley spun freely, power steering ran smooth nothing happened prior to the first belt snapping it just went I’m lost as to what to do next bar taking it to a garage 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Changing the pulleys and belts was simple enough in the end once I know how things went but three belts in such a short time is pointing to something else I just don’t know what it is 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Bit if an update and opinions wanted please, I’ve been going over the belt fiasco and I’ve made a few assumptions and I’d like your opinions as to weather on not I’m clutching at straws.

When the original belt went it had been on for 13months and done 6k it was a genuine belt fitted by a landrover indi, when I pulled all the bits out the big belt was shredded but the small fan one had snapped my assumption is that when it snapped it took the big belt with it, or could it have snapped when the big belt went,

I decided to fit new idlers and tensioners from AF on removing this pulley that attaches to the fan bearing housing it had two silver washers / dust covers one either side

But when I opened the packet containing the new one it only had one washer so I used one of the old ones and fitted it, when this belt went it didn’t take the small belt but this pulley had a few mm play so I assumed this was the problem.

I then replaced everything again but with genuine parts but I only fitted the one washer to the outside of the idler as that’s what it came with, the genuine idler was solid with no movement, my assumption is that the original pulley had the washer fit 150,000 miles without issue with me not fitting it would the .5mm thickness really throw the belt.

As I’ve said before I spun all the fixed pulleys and they all spun freely with no movement the only one I can spin is the main crank, I’ve heard this can have end Float is there a way to check this.

I welcome your opinions on this as I’m leaning towards replacing the missing washer and having one more crack before giving it to a garage, is there anything I’ve overlooked 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Do not add washers - use only what is supplied with the pulley. However I feel that there must be another alignment issue or that the belt isn't routed correctly.

When mine went it shredded the main belt but the small one stayed intact. I replaced all the idlers as yourself and the two belts
When It came to one idler I for the life of me can’t remember which one originally came with the washer on the back, but on opening the idler from af the washer was on the front, I decided to leave it as is and left it on the front. Having read your past posts etc I’m obviously very paranoid about it going pear shaped. Touch wood currently everything is going okay. I have covered a minimum of 150 miles since fitting 2016 4.4 diesel

Tdtj I think you’ll be ok I’m sure it’s something else on mine mate

The washer I was referring to is the one in the picture that came with the pulley, when I removed my original idler it had on both sides from the factory 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Yes mine seems to be ok
Your one seemingly has an underlying issue that you can’t see somewhere. Strange it’s gone so far then all of a sudden start losing belts. Hopefully you will get to the bottom of this very soon 2016 4.4 diesel
