Trailer Light on, but no trailer connected

Hi there,

Bit of an odd one (I think).

Yesterday, I connected a trailer to my Rangie. All seemed to go well.

Today, my Rangie still thinks it's connected, even though it isn't.

Green trailer symbol is lit, right hand indicators go mental when activated. All else seems "normal"

Anyone experience this before and have any pointers.

There are no fault codes detected by the IID ool.

Cheers 2007 3.6 TDV8

On both my Australian market L322s the trailer sockets were still wired to the UK spec and had to be changed by myself, worrying as both cars had been used for towing. Maybe you have freaked out the light control module, try unplugging the trailer module located at the rear fusebox or disconnect and reconnect the battery. Also, you need to be aware that any led lights on your trailer will constantly flash like a disco and can only be stopped by building a shunt box. I impressed myself by building one that worked 1st time. 2007 TDV8 VSE

OK, thanks for that.

Towing has always been a bit hit and miss re the trailer lights.

I do have a Ford adaptor with a resistor somewheres in the plug to help with the mental blinking.

This issue, though, is a bit weird.

Trailer light on, but no trailer connected

I'll try disconnecting the battery and maybe burn some sage Laughing 2007 3.6 TDV8

Hopefully, a battery disconnect might reset something but what caused it. You really need to check the wiring as I said both my l322s had UK pinouts which are wrong. Sadly fitting a resistor in each circuit will not address the flashing, it is not that simple. You need a 5 pin relay and resistor on each light circuit. When the relay is in the inactivated state the test pulse goes through the resistor only, no flash, the car is happy. When the light is on, the relay is switched to now connect the led bulb and resistor. The car needs to see the resistor to register a trailer is attached which I understand changes parameters in the engine and transmission. It's a nightmare, I gave up on the 1st L322 and changed the trailer lamps. New Car and new trailer and had to go through it all again but built a plug in box. You can buy them for A$230 made up, I did it for A$45 in parts. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Looks like the control unit is toast.

Disconnected it, and trailer light disappeared.

Smells of electrical death, so I guess I need to buy a new one 2007 3.6 TDV8
