As some of you may know, I have been searching on an off for an L322 for a couple of years. It started out as a search for a daily driver but to buy a late model Vogue SE or AB in the immaculate condition I wanted, and still have money left over for maintenance, I soon realised it was out of my budget. We even looked at L405's but couldn't get as excited about them as I do the L322. One thing led to another, COVID arrived etc etc and a new family car was bought.

The itch needed to be scratched. Having a daily that we are very happy with allowed me to think outside the box and go down the route of searching for another L322, albeit an older one this time. A friend bought a stunning 2005 TD6 from a dealer friend of his at what can only be described as pocket change and this spurred me on. To cut a long story short and after viewing over the last three years 14 L322's, I finally found one 2 miles down the road.

A 2009 3.6 TDV8 Vogue. 156,323 miles. 5 owners. Both turbos replaced, both EGR's replaced, gearbox regularly serviced, all fluids replaced regularly and a host of other receipts and bills from its life. The last receipt for work done was well into 4 figures.

To say I am happy would be an understatement, to finally own an L322 in the colours I really wanted, without rear seat entertainment is spot on.

There are three minor issues with the car, but all can be sorted easy enough and will be documented on here:
- extended height warning on suspension.
- rear wash/ wipe not working.
- steering wheel a couple of degrees out to the right on a dead straight road.

While on the test drive, “extended height” warning came up when trying to put the vehicle into access mode. A quick search on here before heading back to the dealer gave me an idea it was the exhaust filter of the compressor. This lead to a substantial reduction of the asking price as a "new compressor could be very expensive to replace" 😉

This morning I broke out the 2mm drill bit and hey presto, no more suspension trouble! Happy days.

What made you rule out the RSE? I know it’s out of date etc, I don’t mean like using it… thinking more along the lines of it could be there but never used? Probably gives a cleaner look to the headrests without….

mjdronfield, the only reason for not wanting RSE is, as you say, just the clean lines of the stock headrest. I think it’s a brilliant feature but not one I’ve ever liked the look of aesthetically if you know what I mean. Current vehicles:

Fair point. I have it in mine, but I don’t have kids or anything so doesn’t get used…. That’s without the “it’s out of date” etc issues. Just wondered….

Now that is a lovely looking thing and I am a big fan of the wheels. Welcome to the high mile 3.6 club!

Ref RSE I don’t have it either. I had pretty much the same system in my old rapide (have kids) and they used it frequently.

However with the advent of Netflix/sky go etc one could sling some more modern screens running Android in there for longer journeys or just get iPads and holders. Or not bother at all. There are decent packages online from the usual Chinese brands but it all looks a bit of a faff.

The l322 interior to me is one of the great modern designs. Everything is just right.

Good tip on the compressor exhaust filter. A 2010 3.6 I looked at had the message "suspension will lift when system cooled" whilst I was playing with it.

You can just clean the filter with hot water and an airline.

It doesn’t filter all that well with a hole in it one would think. Christian.

It’s not really a filter as such. I think it’s more of an acoustic sound deadening device. Being sintered it allows air through and in doing so keeps the “swoosh” of the air venting down to a minimum. It does also trap any particulate from the system being vented into the compressor space. I plane to replace it as they are only a couple of quid from eBay/ compressed air fitting suppliers. The point in this case is that I got a good deal thanks to advice from the forum. Current vehicles:

Well an update to L322 ownership....I sold it!

No, not at all. Part of the reduction in price when buying the vehicle was that the steering wheel was slightly down to the right in a straight line. I haggled a little extra off due to this and thought I will book in for an alignment when I get time and get that sorted.

The day came and I was booked in at Glenrands Land Rover Specialists in Liphook, Hampshire after a solid recommendation from forum member DrRob.

While booked in for the alignment I asked them to do a health check on the vehicle, check fault codes and give it the general once over as twice on a long steady run the message "Engine System Fault" appeared on the dash when applying power after r a long period of cruising at light throttle. A brief search on here made me think induction hoses so asked the lads to have a look as the car was with them.

It tuned out to be a cracked inlet manifold. Oh well, crack on and get that done. The alignment was difficult because a previous animal had managed to round off or damage every adjuster. Also a few of them were seized. This lead to a complete overhaul of the bushes, lower arms, adjusters etc. All replaced and now the alignment is absolutely spot on.

Top service from the lads at Glenrands and now the L322 is driving superbly. It wasn't driving badly before but there is a noticeable difference now! Current vehicles:

I’d never been too sure about the level of tint on the rear windows. They seem to be a bit darker than privacy glass and there were a couple of small nicks in the film on the tailgate glass and off side door glass. I decided to remove them as I’ve always been a fan of standard glass and a light interior. Needless to say, I'm rather happy with the result.
