Reliability on 4.4 compared to the 3.0?

Hi all just a quick question regarding reliability on the 4.4 compared to the 3.0.
I know the road tax is more expensive but are the general running cost the same?
Regards Ash 👍🏻

Have the crankshaft (?) issues on the 3.0 been corrected yet?

No direct experience, only from reading posts on the forum.

Good point 👍🏻
This is why I am asking the question is the 4.4 more reliable??
The 3.6 suffered with turbo problems

I’m on my second 4.4. Absolutely faultless - I wouldn’t entertain a 3.0 due to the well publicised issues in both the RR and Discovery - apart from that the performance of the 4.4 kicks the 3.0 into space. Once you have driven one there is no going back, and that covers the outright performance, braking, handling and mpg. The V8 Diesel is ticking over doing 1000 revs at 50, and if you want to gun it she will pull away easily when doing well into 3 figures. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

As above. Plus the 4.4 costs about £365 pa to tax - well that’s what I paid.

Thanks for the replies guys👍🏻
Looks like the 4.4 is the one to go for so longs you don’t mind the higher tax.
Kind Regards Ash

5 years on and ours has been extremely reliable. A pleasure to own, drive (and it is competent at towing). Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another 3.0 TDv6:

As for the “crankshaft issue”… there’s not much evidence on this forum of it being common in the L405:

Now had 6 x LR 3.0 cars and not a single problem with any of them, certainly no crank shaft issues as is continually alluded to on this forum.

Not a lot of difference in performance (maybe a couple of secs at most to 62mph, but who cares?), or unless you do a lot of towing. Fuel economy is better with a 3.0.

The latest 3.0 MHEV is the best engine I've ever had in a car. Reviews of my facelift car in 2018 put the "sweetspot" of the range as the 3.0SE. Likewise the latest car as 3.0 MHEV All LR cars from 1984

i'm in my fourth year of 3.0 ownership...

i also have had no problems with mine....the mpg is excellent at low 30's around town and easy 40+ on a run....i've even seen 47.7 mpg at one point...

as a frequent reader of this forum [ Mr. Green ] i have to say that theh 4.4 has its fair share of problems.. ... - .- -.

Massive thanks to all that’s taken the time to reply.
Very interesting reading, it seems reliability is mainly down to regular servicing 👍🏻

Got put off buying a 3.0 due to the crankshaft issues tbh. My 4.4 has been flawless over the past 14 months of ownership. On a run have got over 40mpg but pottering around town early 20s/high teens. Rarely use it to potter around town though.

Also, and this is probably just me, the bigger engine just feels more in keeping with the car. It's a mighty car, deserves a mighty engine. L405 4.4 AB Loire Blue

In my simple head, all FFRRs should be V8 powered!
