United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

AndyS,

What I like about this thread is that it's obvious colour choice is such personal and subjective decision that we can all be right in our choice Smile

I've had two Carpathian L405's, one 'traditional' and one with a black pack. So I must like the colour! I found even with the black pack to differentiate the Carpathian from black, most of the time it just looked black. Only in the sun in certain settings did the Carpathian really show off its class.

As per my post above, I was also disappointed when I saw a green one on the road in the sun this week and concur with your comments.

I'm sticking with Charente after seeing it in the flesh. It has a purple/brown hue in some settings a bit like the L332 Stornoway I owned many years ago. MY23 D350 HSE

Firstly Phil, I'm 100% with you, it's great that this thread enables us to all discuss our thoughts on paint colours, especially when this is such a tricky one with the L460. Such discussions will hopefully help us all eventually reach a final conclusion (although I'm still not 100% certain yet!)

Just to add my thoughts, Phil said:

"I found even with the black pack to differentiate the Carpathian from black, most of the time it just looked black"

I may be wrong, but I think that the car's paint colour will pick up on, and be influenced by the accessories (such as wheels), and accents (such as the visual packs)........

So, for example, if you add black wheels, or a black pack to Carpathian, it will make it look even more black.

Alternatively, add the light silver coloured Autobiography Visual Pack to the Belgravia Green, and it will highlight the green tone as opposed to blending it with a black pack and making it pick up on this darker tone, if that makes sense.

Not sure if I'm going a bit Lawrence Lewelyn-Bowen, but hopefully this makes some sense.

See photo below for example.

Just my take on it......

Aja500,

May be but I’m not convinced they look more grey or less black with the different trims. Here’s both my L405’s in Carpathian for you to decide.

Hmmmmmm, yeah, I do see what you mean Phil.

I do think the silver wheels soften it all though - But maybe it's just my personal taste.

Phil’s images are yet another example of how all these colours are transformed in bright light. The top one does nothing for me but the lower one looks great and this is because the sun is showing up the depth in the paint.

I think we would alll find the choice much easier if we lived somewhere where the sun was out most of the time. Laughing

Good idea 5.0 😎

And aja500 I think you are onto something. Been reading about simultaneous contrast - the below shows it in action. If I interpret the image correctly it feels as though a dark trim package should make the car appear lighter, and a light trim package makes the car appear darker and more intense. But factor colours in to the mix and I am sure not sure what happens!

Anyhow here is a lovely old and new picture. Credit rangrover_svo on Instagram.

Who would ever have thought, that choosing a colour for a new car would be so difficult and complicated.

Agree, Carpathian and shadow pack looks amazing! Even in indoor light. Just trying to envision how Carpathian will look with AB (atlas) trim, 23" 1075 Diamond Turned wheels and clear glass (our spec), aslo taken Freddy's contrast effect into account...

I managed to see a carpathian car with shadow pack (bramley) and it looks amazing albeit with black wheels…personal choice not mine but was grateful to see carpathian and shadow pack per our order. Some observations though:

The shadow pack is clearly carpathian but per the configurator it’s atlas grey. Is this an exception they make when the contrast is just wrong with the body colour?

Secondly, we have ordered the 1079 wheels which on the configurator loo a dark grey. Clearly the cars we have seen thus far the 1079 wheels are way way lighter.

And here’s my point, the comms, configurator etc have been just unacceptably poor. Land Rover, you are a complete shower! This is a 130k + car and you are taking us for fools
