2016 both open on the remote but you cannot close on the buttons unless the cars open? |

Indeed, the keyfob needs to be pressed to prove the keys are not just lying in the boot, ready to get locked in a la L322 days |

My 2014 opens both upper & lower from the button by the knee, sometimes... On another point, if the vehicle is locked, and I open just the tailgate via the keyfob with the vehicle still locked, I can toss the keys into the back of the fattie and still close by depressing the tailgate button on the tailgate itself, the tailgates will close completely, with the keys still in the boot, but then an instant later a warning tone sounds (2 chirps only) and the upper tailgate releases.. it does not open, just unlatches.. You can then lift the tailgate by hand, retrieve your keys, and lock as per normal again.. Obviously stays locked if the keyfob is in your hand.. My wifes 3 series BM on the other hand, stays locked, with keys in boot, ask me how I know...!! |

How strange. I've had 2 x BMWs with comfort access (2014 and 2017) and it was impossible to lock the keys in the boot. I did it a couple of times and the boot just powered open again. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Maybe 'comfort access' is the very answer to your reply, SWAMBO's BM definitely stays locked, until you find the spare fob.. |

Ahh, OK, that makes sense as without it the car doesn't have the sensors to know where the key is. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid
