2007 rear wheel getting warm

Strange one, n/s rear wheel was hot to the touch the other day, suspected sticking pad / caliper so stripped everything down and found everything to be free, and the piston pushed back really easily. Parking brake all seemed to be fine and not dragging.

Found the rear pads had obviously been hot and that they had cracked so suspected that perhaps water had got behind the pad material. Rebuilt with new pads and all was well for a couple of days.

Noticed today rear wheel was slightly warm to the touch am I right in thinking this can only be caliper despite the fact it all seemed to be fine?

Am just asking incase anyone had anything strange with rear brakes before.

could it be rust under the shims that the pads slide on?

Were the caliper slide pins moving ok? The upper pin has a rubber boot part way down that can swell and cause the pin to jam 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

I'd still put money on it being a sticky calliper.

It may be that there's corrosion under the rubber seal that causes the piston to stay out when pressure's applied.

The wheel bearing would have to be close to collapse to generate enough friction to warm the wheel.

100% it's the brakes. Check my project page for what I did. Christian.

All valid points thank you! However both pins were free as anything, and i always take the shims off and thoroughly clean under them them when changing pads.

I did question regarding the wheel bearing but it isn't noisy and i cannot feel any play.

I suspect i will end up sticking a caliper on it this weekend and see if that cures it.

If you don’t find anything else it could be the flexible brake hose at fault. They have been known to deteriorate internally and end up acting as a non return valve.

If i remember correctly the rears were done as a dealer recall approx. 5 years ago. I would be disappointed if genuine parts had failed in that time although its not impossible. Will stick a caliper on it and see if that cures it if not then I agree that pipe is indeed suspect.

If you see any black bits in the bled brake fluid, that would indicate if the flexi hose was breaking down.
