There are 2 M.A.F sensors ( Mass Airflow Sensors ) , one in each of the air filter ducting, that require less frequent inspection.

MAP sensors measure intake pressure ( absolute pressure and not relative to weather or altitude). MAF sensors measure air mass (not volume so it's temperature and pressure independent) entering the intake. One map sensor and a MAF on each intake. Both are used to calculate fuelling, boost and identify any faults ( leaks) if they present unexpected data to the ECU. MAP sensor needs regular cleaning as it's position mean it's getting soot from the EGR which can make it slow to respond to throttle pedal input ( hesitation) . MAF sensors shouldn't need any work as they just get clean air. There is also an AIT sensor before the throttle which measures the intake temperature post turbo and IC. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Is there a recommended way of cleaning the sensors? Bit of brake cleaner ? Compressed air blast ? |

I used brake cleaner and worked a treat. |
