Also.. proud to announce I fixed the lighting gremlins.

I took the LCM out and extracted the PCB. There were a couple of points where corrosion had bridged connections.

As a longshot, I gave it a scrub with a toothbrush and some methylated spirits.

I gave it a whirl and hey presto.. everything seems to work. Correct speed indicators, clicking in the instrument cluster and all the correct indicators for the various lights. Amazing, a free fix for a Land Rover..

Quick one.. when the dipped beams are on, should you see the little green indicator on the cluster? I don't see it.on mine. I think I know the answer to this lol.

No green indicator on my cluster either. Annoying when lights on auto and don't know if they are on, when it gets to dusk. Previous cars:

@appj62 many thanks for clarifying, that's a relief. Seems a bit odd, I would have thought that indicator was as a requirement.

A buddy in the factory I work out of managed to get the passenger door open which is great.

Looking good mate. Long as your handy with the tools as it would seem that you are with the clio thread these motors ain't too heavy on the pocket.

Garage said too me to change the arms in looking at £500 with genuine parts.

Changed them myself for £300 but that includes ball joints that didn't need replacing and ferrodo brakes

Well.. I am somewhat handy. I only used a spanner for the first time back in 2019.. but I seem to have come a long way. I seem to be just willing to research anything and give it a go.

I agree though. Once it is done DIY, then you really can shave off a lot of cost. In two ways, by saving on labour but also more importantly, the parts that need not be replaced that a mechanic will inevitable charge you for. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.

Quick update after the last week/end..

* I have found that you can get motors to fit in the locking units for about £20.. so I'll get and fit one of those. I'll be collecting when I'm in the UK in a few weeks, to avoid Brexit taxes.

* Fitted a new Yuasa HSB019 battery today (5yr warranty) and did a parasitic drain test.. Doesn't look to have a problem in that regard. Looks like the last battery was just shot after sitting discharged for 12 months, which is expected.

* Ran the engine for a nice while and got up to temp.. no more coolant leaky on the ground. All hail the €1.50 O Ring fix :strong

* Didn't have time to hunt down the sunroof fuse and chase the source of damp carpet - that's a job for an evening this week.

This week coming I plan on getting it insured and driving out the unit, following:

* Reassembly of trim pieces.
* Reassembly of passenger door card/airbag/electrics.
* Oh I also need to get a self adhesive (quick fix) mirror glass for the O/S wing.
* Oh and some coolant too.. as it's all water right now...that could be a nasty job. jeez the lists never end do they

Also...help needed

My pulley/belt is squeaky/chirping at startup. I believe it's a known issue following some research. I have also found the TSB that everybody refers to. My VIN looks to be in range. What are the chances a local Landy Dealer will cover this for me? Is it too late? Thanks.

Quick update folks

I went about flushing the coolant today.. what I did was:

* Open the stop cock/exp bottle - drain as much fluid
* Top up and keep draining
* Start engine and put heat / fans to max in cabin
* Top up expansion bottle as it's draining
* Keep draining until draining coolant is clear in bucket.
* Top up system and start engine for a few minutes.
* Drain coolant - not sure if it was just me, but there seemed to be a tinge of coolant in there. Maybe not.

Anyway, I went away leaving it draining. So will go back tomorrow, fill it up, start engine and flush again. Should be clear. I'll then commence with topup and the dreaded bleed.


Oh and I found this oil leak. Looks like one of the supply lines to the transmission cooler. So, not sure how to tackle that. Some people on the old Facebook have said to cut the fitting and replace the fitting with some oversized pipe and fix it on with Jubilee clip. Not sold on that tbh.

I repaired that leak with a piece of 90 Degree hose and some jubilee clips.

Really and truly I was close to driving this a while back, but driving a car that is clearly leaking oil is a non runner for me.

With the rust.. I have decided, I am going to close up the hole in the sill by fixing a piece of steel over it with some RTV and pop rivets.. the idea is to cover the hole and prevent mud/dirt getting inside the sill until I have time to get the grinder and welder out. To do the rust I need to remove the fuel tank also.. so it's going to be quite an involved job... and likely to turn into a full on underside resto if I am honest.

I want to be sure that the car is in good working order prior to doing that..... I also need to get my Clio track build completed.

This coming week I am going to give it a new oil and filter before I start driving it. I will also be getting some supercharger oil and will change that when it arrives.

Been looking at the service history. Looks like the pulley TSB was done, which is great.

.. But, last service in the book was 24k miles ago (regularly up to then).

Finally got this bad boy out on the road..

I had a friend visit me over the weekend and we put the "finishing"* touches to get it on the road.

* Put the under trays back on
* Wheel well liners + rocker panel cover trim on
* Torqued up and inflated wheels

I then took it to the pumps to fill up the tank as i'm not sure how long the existing half tank had been in it, considering the car sat for 12 months prior to my receiving it..

Following that, a wash, then a few laps of town and up to the top of a hill/mountain to the viewing point. I'm not sure how many miles I did... but not a lot really. I then filled it up again this afternoon to see what it took and it took €69/35 litres .. that's pretty damn gnarly really. The current fuel prices really has put a bit of a downer on this, but I will still drive it here and there, just probably not as my daily like I had toyed with before.

The following items I would like to do pretty quickly..

* Bonnet on N/S doesn't lock into the slam panel - spring or mechanism.. or something is not working!!
* Check over coolant levels, as when I floor it, it alarms me about the coolant level.
* Engine oil / filter service. Would have done on Friday - only I forgot my head lamp. (Also, how do you access the filter on this engine?)
* Switch out the pimpy RRS wheels on it, for the factory FF Supercharged ones, thanks @Dhallworth.
* Clean it, as it smells a bit damp inside due to having door left ajar in my workshop.

Running around locally I average around 13mpg from mine. If you use the loud pedal it’s easy to make that number much smaller.

They’re definitely not cheap to run but they are nice cars and nice places to spend time!

But I must say...

There is a serious lack of storage in the cabin. I mean, as a driver, I hardly have somewhere to put my phone down.

And the drink holders are totally flimsy and don't hold all types of drink containers. The door cubby's are inaccessible while seated, really and the centre console storage is rather small considering the upper container protrudes into lower.

Glove box, is well.. just big enough to hold a pair of gloves, or just the owners manual.
