4.2 Supercharged Valve Cover Gaskets

Looking at the workshop manual, it states that the drivers side valve cover is as simple as “Remove cover, swap gasket, refit cover”.

The passengers one states that you need to discharge the air conditioning, remove one of the pipes, then remove the valve cover to change the gasket.

Has anyone successfully managed to change the gasket on the passengers side valve cover without discharging the air con? I’d rather not have to take the car to get the gas recovered, then have it recharged again afterwards if there’s any way to avoid it.

Thanks,

I cannot remember which thread I was reading, but someone wrote about undoing some fasteners and using the flexible pipes to move A/C components a little for this. Never worked on the 4.2 so do not know if this is possible.

Sorry can't remember which thread it was. Hopefully it jogs someone's memory.

Thanks Smile

I found this thread when searching on Google rather then using the forum search Smile

Parts are ordered so I’ll give it a go when they turn up!

Woha calm down 😂 that was my post and it was for my old 4.4 m62 beast not the supercharged.

I may be wrong but I think you need to get the blower and the coolers off to do them in this beast (a good day in my opinion)

Have you an oil leak then? Current stable:

Ahh, I assumed it was on your 4.2.

There’s a bit of oil coming from somewhere so it seemed a good idea to change them whilst changing everything else.

Getting the blower off isn’t a bad job tbh, last time it took me around an hour to remove it. The bearings are a touch noisy on my Supercharger so if it’s made any easier I’ll do the NS valve cover when it’s off. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Actually, on the 4.2 you don’t need to remove the Supercharger to do the valve cover gaskets.

Only thing it says to remove in the manual is the AC pipe on the passengers side cover.
