Restricted Performance again, the engine fault light

Ive had the occasional RP in yellow and an even more occasional RP in red since i bought my 2011 TDv8 from the first owner. The tech bulletins have been sorted, and I have checked manifold hoses. Red started to come on when the it was restarted a short time after a short journey, but cleared itself if then started when it was properly warm. The last three days, red RP has come on at the first start up, then reset once warm, until this morning on the way to site! Red RP stayed on and when restarted it came up with an engine fault. I dont have an OBD reader. Yet.

Then tonight it starts up without RP, but with an engine fault, so it sitting at the mechanics. Any clues on what to hunt for? I suspect manifold sensors, and there seem to be some oil films in the intercooler to donut connection.

Thanks
Pyro.

Until you’ve had the codes read from it there’s so many different things it could be.

Splits in the 4 hoses going into the plastic inlet are common, as is a split in the plastic housing too.

Hopefully, once the codes have been read it’ll become clear.

Split inlet manifold? Mine had this and caused exactly your symptoms. Very small crack, needed a HIGH PRESSURE smoke test to find.

I was wondering about split manifold a week or so ago and ordered new silicon ones, from a link on here. Just not go them yet, nor had the time to fit them. Perhaps that is next Saturday, or the mechanic this week. :/

I had RP on an XF v6 jag which was a manifold crack, and on 330 beamer before that. Must be my driving... Very Happy

You're taking about the pipes. I mean the actual manifold. The 2011 Manifold wasn't able to withstand the pressure of both turbos and has been modded up. it's c. £1600 for one manifold replacement as the injector lines have to come out. I can show you my bill (if I can find it! Embarassed )

Its just been smoke tested and appears to be OK. Error codes suggesting a fault with the throttle body according to the mechanic. Mice have been in too and chewed the wiring to the EGR sensor....
