What fuel shortages? - if you're refering to that weekend of panic buying I barely noticed and wasn't inconvenienced by it.

It was a bit more than a weekend, it lasted several weeks. Sure I get and agree it was self inflicted and could have been avoided, nevertheless it was real for most people in the UK. But sure, just like you weren't affected by that if you had a full tank, surely an electric vehicle isn't affected by a one day power outage with a full tank either

Anyone still watch fith gear recharged. Car company called NIO have a facility (not yet in the UK) whereby when you're running low on power, you pull into one of their "service stations". Press a button, your car is automatically parked, your battery is then replaced with a fully charged one, withing 5 mins your away. Fascinating to watch. Currently looking more into EV as a replacement for wifes car.

That’s exactly the solution that will make EVs a serious alternative to fossil fuels, it’s worked for decades with FLTs.
My issue isn’t with EVs, I like them, it’s the problem of charging, as we get forced into EVs no amount of solar panels or little generators is ever going to provide a practical solution to keeping us moving.

I really don’t see the issue. It takes about 20 minutes to charge to 80% full. I don’t even have to wait the the vehicle doing that. Just hook it up, spend a penny, get a coffee and by the time I’m back it’s already done. No worse than filling up my Range Rover, holding down the nozzle and wait by the car for the 80 liters to go in and only then be able to go inside spend a penny, get coffee and then queue up and pay for the fuel.

I think a few people imagine problems where in reality there shouldn’t be any.

We’ve still not used a public charger….. might try a bit of a trip just to give one a go and see how quickly it will charge There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I asked "classic electric vehicles" roughly how much to convert an MGB GT - @ 60K
Will be planting trees instead, until the petrol runs out  .

I’m hearing about the new Graphene/graphite batteries. Fully charge in 2 minutes and power a robotic road sweeper for 8 hours. Trialing in Manchester. Seems the current battery systems may already be out of date. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

^ but that would require a charging network which could deliver which could deliver 2 mega watts to each charger…. Or so,et sort of capacitance to deliver charge that quickly.

At current car voltages the amperage required would be insane….. around 2500 amps at 800w! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
