A should be the on the RH bank when looking from behind the engine, not from in front. If you disconnect the electrical connector you should get a permanent fault on that sensor, then swapping the sensors left to right the fault should swap sides if the sensor is indeed the cause.

I replaced mine a while ago on a 2012 4.4TDV8 (while eliminating them as a cause of something), I have 2 spares which work perfectly because there was no change whatsoever when I replaced them.

Thanks for that GraemeS it has been spray cleaned before, approx 5 months ago, previous owner warned me in advance of the issue. I shall look at it again, if memory serves me right, the thin wire was touching the plastic that runs along the side of it.
