A warm welcome!

I for one would be interested to hear about your experiences with your L494, especially how you find the D350 engine.

All the best! 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

hi recordman

thank you for your warm welcome. really appreciate!

it's my second L494 - I am telling it, to have a comparison
the first one was a SDV6 MY16 (306hp/700Nm). was a great car! but, I sold it due to the crankshaft-suffer of the Lions (never had any problems, but couldn't arrange myself with the possibility of a crankshaft issue).

switched shortly to Volvo and then ordered the HST D350 in March 2021. Got it in October 2021.
The car has now 4100km on the clock.

the two engines (SDV6 / D350) are not comparable. it's another world. to be precise:
- the D350 is incredibly silent - in idle mode you honestly don't hear it. normal driven it is really silent and pushed it gives a nice, "bassy" sound
- until ca. 80km/h you feel the support of the MHEV technology. After that, so my feeling, only the engine is pushing
- the D350 is really powerful. Until 2500km I didn't push it hard. from then, I gave it bit more and after 3000km I drove it fully "normally" (means: warm up, drive without thinking of having a new engine). The last 2000km were done during our Christmas holidays (2x1000km to Bosnia-Hercegowina and back to Switzerland). The way back to Switzerland (2900km on clock on journey start) I drove it until 200km/h and it pushes very, very good! I had a BMW 530d E60 few years ago chipped to 270hp, but this D350 is pushing better.
- the consumption was 9.9l/100km on the holiday journey (500km through Italy with 150-170km/h)
- the only "negative" point is, that the ZF automatic is pushing early to a high gear. I like, when the engine runs about 1500rpm. I don't like it, when the automatic pushes the 7th gear in 1000rpm to drive around. For the moment - that's the only negative point

I really "love" this engine. it's a beast, pushes the RRS really good/hard and the consumption so far is good. (here in Switzerland about 9.2l/100km). I suppose that the consumption will drop in a few thousand kilometers.

I don't have any comparison to a SDV8, sorry

if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask

cheers
