United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue
L322 media upgrade

Hi All

I know this subject has been covered lots of times and I have looked through a lot of old threads, but I wanted to ask a few specific questions about my potential installation.

My car is a 2007 4.2SC. It has the rear entertainment screens.

At the moment the front screen works for TV and rear camera, but the Sat Nav is not working properly - I have tried to sort this, but it's no better. The rear camera shows on the screen but there are vertical lines. I have taken the camera off and given it a clean but still the same. TV seems OK if a bit clunky, but I've no comparison.
Rear screens work and I can see the TV. DVD doesn't work, but I've not cleaned the drive. New headphones and they work. Remote - bought a second hand one, changed the batteries, but not been able to use it as the DVD isn't working.

So, I figured that if I bought one of the complete units from one of the suppliers (Luxury Land Rover Upgrades or PowerfulUK) it should solve all my issues by making my car Apple Car Play and using Apple Maps for my navigation.
Does anyone have any experience of any of the companies offerings and able to offer advice?

I guess they would work by streaming films from iPhones etc as well as music. Not sure how the TV would work using this.

I'd also replace my old reversing camera.

Any help gladly received.

Thanks
Roger

Do you have a link to PowerfulUK kit?

Hmmm - no, it doesn't look like they do them. I have been looking at their reversing cameras and thought I'd seen media systems. I've seen so many threads and websites regarding this I'm losing it!

So, I guess my question should be - are the Range Rover Upgrades any good or does anyone have an alternative?

Thanks - and sorry for the confusion.

Roger

I would be interested to see what the kit consists of and how well it works.
Their information is misleading. Some posts state it works on 2010 and later, but the listing shows up to 2010.

I agree that the website is a little confusing. I have had a few 'chats' with the person who does it but I will need some more information before I commit.

I understand from previous threads that it can all be done by getting bits yourself, but to be honest I don't have the skills for that so want one that it pretty much plug and play. Really I want one that gets past the issues I'm having with my sat nav, radio and rear screen DVD and I'm hoping this is it (or one like it).

I'll keep the forum updated if I get one.

Roger

From what I understand- you’ve got two problems- as I have the same problems too.

1. The majority of kits are for the BMW era stuff- our cars with the MOST system seem to be a little complicated for aftermarket kits to work on- and if you do manage to find something, then that leads you on to the second issue…..

2. Cars with the rear entertainment are not catered for at all due to the way the system communicates with the rear screens, so anything you do find will mean you end up losing the rear entertainment- something I wasn’t prepared to do myself otherwise I wouldn’t have spent so long trying to find my colour combo. There are work arounds but they are neither cheap or straightforward so for me the trade off wasn’t worth it as I do use the rear screens on longer journeys with the kids

If you do find any solutions then I’d be very interested too!

The RSE is an easy system to upgrade. As it has an aux input.
The front screen on the other hand is not so straight forward.

OK. Paul - when you say you end up losing the rear entertainment system, do you just mean the DVD aspect? My RSE DVDs don't work at them moment anyway. I can get TV on them, so I assume if I went down the Luxury Range Rover Upgrade route that would be the same as mine is now. I do use the aux in the back to run my old iPod so I get my tunes on the radio (AUX) system, so I know that bit works. I know the LRRU system will work on my car, it's just that I'm not sure what it will be able to do. I was hoping that someone night have already tried it and could offer some info.

No one seems to know. Apparently he has loads of orders but noon has ever seen the kit as far as I can see. He has never shown a picture of the kit either.

I have a Chromecast working in the front and rear of mine. Rear was relatively easy although connection is done at the unit rather than using the sockets.

I did read a few good threads about how people had done their own. It looked very interesting, but I want to keep mine looking as original as possible but with all the Apple CarPlay facilities.

I have a Jaguar X-Type too and it appears that there is an option for adding it to those (JagDroid) and was hoping for smething like that for my FFRR.

Naviplus (?) I think do a kit to add CarPlay etc.
Uses original touch screen etc

Mine is just an output. As far as the vehicle is concerned it is playing a DVD.

I've watched some of the Navtools videos and whilst that does look like a great system, there seems to be a lot of cutting and splicing to do. The Luxury Range Rover Upgrades one is supposed to be plug and play. I doin't have any issues with splicing and soldering (I quite like it to be honest) but it's the running cables through the car that I worry about.

More thinking to do.

The navtool one using touchscreen on the OE screen.

The Land Rover upgrades is just an output to the screen.

Ah, right. I've sent LRRU a message to ask if it's wired or wireless and whether you need to use your phone to operate it. 2007 4.2 Supercharged

You also have to use a hack on the screen to get to it too from what I recall - it's not as simple as pressing DVD or, like with Naviplus, pressing hangup. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'
