New D300 - DPF thoughts?

Hello all.

I have just pulled the trigger on a new (ex/existing dealer demo) D300 Westminster Black which I'm picking up this week. I have considered the issue with journey types and the issue of DPF regens and so on, but have gambled that I'll be OK on the basis it's a new car and should be OK for a year or two before I get problems.

I do mostly local journeys (sub 10 miles) with the occasional 50 miler motorway trip however I am aware this won't be ideal and am happy to find a reason for a few longer trips to keep everything warmed up and hopefully the DPF will get to do its regens.

Does anyone have any experience of the whole DPF issue with the D300 engines?

It doesn't matter that you have a new D300 engine, it has the same DPF architecture and with your short journeys you will suffer oil dilution. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Now had the exact same engine since May 2021 and there are no signs whatsoever with Oil Dilution etc.

The 2018 car I had before also didn't suffer any problems with the 3L engine over the 3 years that I had it and 36k miles.

Should also mention my journey profiles are exactly the same as Minghis:thumbsup: All LR cars from 1984

OK, I have heard similar from a few others, it seems the old problems have mostly been solved by latest design changes with the whole DPF system.
I accept it's not ideal, but I'm a lot more confident with a new one than one that is a year or two old.
It will be interesting to see how the dealer responds if it has problems and if warranty covers any DPF issues.

Yes the most important thing is to just enjoy the car, if you need extra oil changes then at least you will be well prepared for them.
It would be interesting how you get on though, so please update this post if you have an update or not.

I am thinking the same way as you regarding design changes, and am thinking there has been a change and was wondering wether it was around 2018 facelift time. ?
Or is it purely architecture differences between V6 and V8? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I registered here to answer/discuss to this thread. I have a RRS L494 HST D350.

here was mentioned, that the DPF architecture is the same. I took a look under my car and as far as I could see, the DPF is mounted direct to the engine. I couldn't find the DPF under the car. If you take a look on your engine (left side to the cabin, you will see a box covered by metal - I suppose that this is the DPF).
my old MY16 RRS with the SDV6 engine had the DPF under the drivers seat (Swiss car, LHD)

second point is, that the new Ingenium inline-six Diesels have 8.8l oil volume (the old Lion V6 had 5.9l). so, if it should have oil dilution, the amount of Diesel in the oil is smaller in percentage.

the only weak point from my point of view is the service schedule of 24 months and 34000km.
I will, for sure, do a yearly oil and oil filter change. that would be every 13000-16000km.

due to corona and homeoffice my RRS is mostly in the garage. once a week I drive to the office (2x16km). this shouldn't be a problem for an engine, which is probably the newest on the market.
after that my driving pattern will be: five times a week, 2x16km to the office. three times a year a holiday drive with 2x1000km.
on weekends we visit nice places here in Switzerland, so that we do 30km in minimum one-way

additional: I try to only use BP Ultimate Diesel (no FAME/no Biodiesel), because FAME-Diesel can't vaporise on 100 degrees oil temperature. it needs more...

in summary: the new Ingenium inline-six Diesels shouldn't suffer from oil dilution as the old Lions did. In my opinion 10miles / 16km shouldn't be a problem for this engine Range Rover Sport HST D350

hello all

I took a OBD scanner and the Torque app on my phone and did some analysis
during my drive to work (15km) I have seen, that the CAT and DPF reaches over 300 degrees Celsius
this temperature will stay on the highway/Autobahn during drive at about 130km/h
as soon as I left the Autobahn the temperatures are going back to 250-270 degrees.
I am now recording every day to see when a active regeneration kicks in.

the old Lion V6 started a passive regeneration as soon as the DPF reaches 250 degrees Celsius. I suppose that with the new Ingenium the temperature is not higher than this.

Update for those who are interested - Just over 3000 miles now and no sign of any DPF issues. Lots of short journeys, with the occasional once a fortnight 30 mile trip either A road or motorway.

Let's hope it stays that way!

Interesting news, can you check the Remote app info?

in the Remote app, in the status tab --does the service due miles = JLR between service miles - your actual miles done? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Just thought I’d bump this thread. Currently have 71 plate L405 D350 from new. First 15,000 miles no problems until winter showed up (car was a year old at this point) and then suddenly out of nowhere oil dilution problems start showing up and it’s only got worse since. Done best part of 30,000 miles now and it’s only got worse as the car has been used more with the oil service light coming on again today

For reference most journeys have been motorway journeys 40 miles each way with some short journeys mixed in as well. Car went in for a security update a couple weeks ago and when they did a visual inspection of the brakes the original brake pads were 30% worn which show how much the mileage had been motorway.

Car isn’t fit for purpose if it’s still having these problems with this type of usage. Dealer still trying to blame me for not using the car correctly. Bunch of c****
