But as a starter were there any major upgrades/changes, either mechanical or cosmetic from a 2009 to a 2012 L322. Specifically the tdv8 4.4?

Prices will have to soften somewhat from the screen prices I’m seeing at the moment.

I bought my 2007 SC in 2012 for just shy of £20k and it's still going strong

4.4 wasn’t 2009, that was the last of the 3.6 with TFT screen. Easy way to tell is that the 4.4 has the rotary gear lever. Brochures and spec sheets are in the Wiki…. Top right…..

The L322 is a model that past me by. A brood of teenage boys meant going from a P38 to a D3 was the obvious choice.

Empty nesters these days and having owned a money pit of a Supercharged L405 (breakdowns not routine running costs) I need to scratch the L322 itch.

The prices of the low mileage good examples are just silly at the moment. Putting £25k+ into a 10 year old RR is not my idea of fun, apart from anything else when all the silliness comes to an end my £25k RR will suddenly be worthless

The higher mileage examples seem better value at the moment.

No major differences in my opinion. Standard spec changed a little. I’d ensure to get an autobiography with vision pack. Just be aware that the 4.4 isn’t ULEZ compliant. The 5.0SC is and doesn’t use that much more fuel and comes better specified as standard.

Mm how do you come to that conclusion the 4.4 TDV8 is way more economical than the 5.0 sc and from what I’ve seen the specifications are the same trim for trim

I’ve been getting >30mpg from mine. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

On my trip to the Netherlands I got about 22.4mpg. Around home in the UK I get about 18mpg. My wife seems to get 20mph.

So not a huge difference.

The 5.0 is Autobiography spec only.

Other trim levels available in the TDV8. Westminster was the run out model, and tends to sit between Vogue and Vogue SE spec wise.

ive been watching prices, and there are many at forecourts, that look nice, and have ok mileages, but quite high window prices. (some £25-30k!) I would have put up with crappy wheels/tyres, and a scrape of two at that money, but as said I was lucky. there are a lot of ticks for the late l322 4.4's in my opinion, mostly fuel economy. and ive tested it, and got 41mpg, on a motorway run, at 300 miles. at 65-70. I have got more, but was being very 'tight' with the pedals....(all figures from dash display)
these are a great buy, if bought well. but I think that certain people are either holding on, or others are seeking out 'nice' examples, or high spec, and colour combos... so, just keep looking.... im dead pleased with my car. used to have the early 2002 petrol v8, on lpg. had to make a choice of hefty fuel bills, and another petrol.. or, an occasional ULEZ payment, (south London) and double the miles per gallon, in a near silent, but very responsive diesel. they 4.4's go like stink if you press them. -faster than my outgoing 4.4 petrol!

I ran a 3.6 TDV8 Vogue from new for twelve years to well over 150k miles. Loved that car and maintained it well. Decided to pay silly money to a main dealer for an exceptional, low mileage (Nov 2012) Westminster last summer and, to my surprise, I absolutely love it.

It may be approaching ten years old, but it feels every inch like a brand new car. As for differences, they are few behind the wheel, especially since I went from Stornoway Grey to Orkney Grey which is so subtle it's almost unnoticable!

Engine!! The 4.4 is incredible compared to the 3.6. Feels more like a SC and has returned over 32mpg on a decent run to the Highlands. Best I ever got with the 3.6 was about 26mpg, but the average was more like 22mpg.

Gearbox!! The 8-sp box is a marvel compared to the 6-sp. Sitting at 1000rpm when doing 50mph is quite unbelieveable! Also, the 6-sp was fraught with issues later in life and I wish I'd just replaced the torque convertor at 80k miles instead of having regular gbox flushes.

I thought I'd hate the digital dash in the 4.4, but I don't. I thought I'd hate the keyless start, but I don't. In fact, the only thing I'd trade with the 3.6 is the front seats which were more padded in the old car. I guess this was because they were heated, but not cooled.

I don't actually miss the 3.6 at all, but that's because I feel like it's just been reborn as the 4.4 in my driveway! I'm also content in the knowledge of where things may go wrong in the future from past experience.
