2010 3.6 TDV8 FBH Problem

I wasn't sure if my FBH heater was working so I've just tried the appropriate test on my IID tool. It gives an error message that it cannot complete, with the code E7, which I think is a generic GAP code.

I understand that sometimes the FBH can be reset by pulling its fuse for a few minutes. I dont have a handbook for the car but the fuse locations in the Wiki handbook don't show it so presumably its in the engine compartment fuse-box.

Can anyone confirm which fuse is for the FBH please? I have had a search on here and see when Stan asked about F19 & F3 it was answered that they were FBH but I just wanted to make sure.... is F13 also a candidate?

Or, might anyone have a list of all the engine compartment fuses please?

Many thanks in advance! 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Just had a reply from a friend who works for an LR dealer........ It is 13.

(Just incase anyone with a similar query find this in the future)

Now to pull the fuse for a while & then try the test in the IID tool again..... 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

I left the fuse out for about 20 minutes then put it back in and tried the test in the IID again.

Same error, "Operation failed E7" when either trying the test or the fuel priming for the FBH.

There are no FBH related faults detected by the IID. I have the timed climate option on the screen and I do have a remote that came with the vehicle. The remote does turn on the fan but not the FBH (although its 12' here at the moment so I wouldn't have expected it to do so).

Can anyone point me towards the next steps in finding / fixing the issue please? 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Also make sure your battery is fully charged as if it detects insufficient power it stops to keep enough to crank the engine from memory

You may have tried this, but ISTR somewhere on here that doing a hard battery reset can resolve the problem.

Does the FBH start up fully when the engine starts from cold? AFAIK the upper air temp for operation is 16C, according to the WM. Mine is an 11my so may be a little different to your 10.

As Sandy says, if the battery voltage is too low, then the FBH stays off. Cheers

I think the E7 is a generic GAP code, I've seen mention of it with other tests on Disco 3s.

That second link is quite interesting..... especially "The fuse must be removed with the engine running or within 60 seconds after the engine has been shut down". I haven't seen mention of the within 60 seconds before so will give it a try again tomorrow, thanks!

Thanks, unfortunately I don't know the history of the battery (It was only a couple of weeks ago that I picked up the car) so will dig out a meter when it's daylight.

I haven't seen any evidence of the FBH starting at all, at any temperature. If the temp is cold enough tomorrow I'll stick my head under the LH wheelarch & try the remote (after the fuse-reset within 60 seconds of the engine being shut down). If there's no luck I'll try the battery reset.

Thanks!

Now that I think about it:
What happens when you, after a cold start, ask for all the heat there is to ask for, everything at max?
The FBH also assists with extra heat when the (diesel) engine doesn't supply it (yet or at all)
Maybe you will get another error code that might help?
Question

Good question........ I'll give that a go in the morning & then have a look for fault codes.

Thanks again!

No fault codes come up under FBH in IID?

Do you get any live data?

England

With the gap tool just do a vehicle reset that will clear any lock out the fbh has stored in it, they will lock out after x3 failed attempts to run be it from low fuel to other reasons.

Nope, no FBH related faults.

I needed to go somewhere this evening & remembered that the 753 menu show battery voltage;

11.5....... that was with ignition on but engine not running. Is 11.5 low enough to prevent the FBH firing?

Ah, I knew about the reset function but not that it would clear FBH lockouts. Do you happen to know what else it resets / clears?

Cheers

11.5 is low. I would check FBH live data.

Just been out to the car with a meter.

I get 11.85 across the battery terminals. I've used the remote & straight away could hear a fan, will nip out in 10 minutes to see if there's anything from the FBH exhaust.

Edit: 10 minutes later nothing from the FBH and its exhaust was cold.

I get no section in the IID live values for AHCM....... can anyone with a 3.6 TDV8 & IID confirm they get a AHCM section in the IID live values? 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black
