Transmission Noise

Hi All
Went for fuel this morning about a two mile run . Filled up, engine at just about normal temperature.Outside temperature about 2C . I went onto slip road to enter dual carriageway and accelerated hard. Noise from transmission ,passenger side of tunnel, it sounded like a cross between a thrust bearing on the way out and a stone trapped between brake dust guard and disc i.e. pretty awful !
I reduced speed and accelerated hard again up to 3K- 3.5K rpm. same noise but not as loud.
Carried on for about 8 miles at 70mph went off DC and then back on down slip road and accelerated, again in the same manner. No noise, tried again a couple of times - nothing.
It pulls well and smooth.

Any ideas - nothing indicated on GAP11. Could it be to gear box or transfer box fluids being too cold?
Anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Any ideas?
I’ve just driven 140 miles to Bath with no further noise.
Cheers and seasons greetings.

could have ben what you have suggested, a stone lodged between the disc and shield..

had you driven on a gravel track before the noise appeared maybe ? ... - .- -.

Thanks for the reply Stan.
No Iwas meaning that’s what the sound reminded me of. Noise definitely came from beneath the passenger side of the tunnel and unfortunately I don’t have any dust guards. Hopefully it was a one off and temperature related. Time and miles will tell. In future I will make damn sure everything is warm before giving her any stick!
Cheers

I haven’t experienced this as going for full power after 2 miles from a cold winter start is to put it mildly Censored
Do yourself a favour and log the engine and gear oil temps with your GAP IID from a cold start. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
