If you fancy a daily watch, why not look into getting a kit to build one?

I have found a couple of sites (USA so far) which sell movements and the cases etc. and you can have kits which supply the movements in broken down form ( just like Range Rover )

So a bit of fun on a winter evening or two. Cheers

Like I need another project RJFF! But I’ll be sure to take a look. It could be fun to have a vintage looking piece with more modern internals…much like a 2012 L322!

I went off an on internet tangent and have been looking at Marathons, definitely a style I like. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Marathon JSAR's are as tough as old boots, good tool watch.

May I suggest you a Tudor GMT? It's all what you describe and yet some. It even breaks down every so often, to complete the experience

Had to send mine in for warranty work three times in 2 years. I can't find another watch that complements the FF as well

On a serious note though, it's s great piece and good value. And Rolex will fix it for you if it breaks...

Not the first time I've heard this about a Tudor watch, they make some nice looking watches that you can actually buy and don't come with the ridiculous Rolex customer profiling.

Another great offering, from Omega, which can be had at around 4K is the Aqua Terra 150 m.

I've decided to buy two watches. A good daily and then a nicer one for more special occasions. For the daily, I am smitten with the Marathon GSAR: https://eu.marathonwatch.com/collections/j...077288123. This is the first watch to have really got me going. The design really 'sings' to me. I love the brand story and sheer ruggedness of them - plus, all the reviews are favourable across the board.

You can't go wrong with the GSAR as a daily. I'd choose the L at 41mm as a more versatile size with more than enough wrist presence, still.

It also comes on a bracelet. Price tag is rather hefty, especially on the bracelet but it's most likely available or with minimal waiting time.

Whatever you do, do not rush, there's no hurry in the process. It's all about the journey...

Happy to report my Marathon 'GSAR' 41mm arrived this morning!

It's beautiful. Built like a tank, and I am pretty sure I secured the last one in the EU! As it's now out of stock in most places.

This one uses the ETA 2824-2 movement which went into production in 1982. Very appropriate, as it's my birth year.

Christmas present from my better half. She's managed to combine both of my passions!

For an extra degree of nerdishness, look closely and you'll see that the minute markers at 19 and 48 are highlighted in orange.
