Today I went to close the upper tailgate and the lock failed to engage. I did a search and found it was not that uncommon however apart from one reference to a fix with no explanation, all others changed the lock. Someone also asked about the light switch adjustment and again there was no fix found. Here in Oz getting used parts is not easy but I did find a breaker with a lock for A$180 so I knew I had a backup if I trashed mine trying to fix it. Anyhow I got it apart, found the fault and fixed it, all up about 45 mins start to finish and all is back to normal for no cost. The following is a picture tutorial also showing the light switch if anyone needs to adjust theirs.

Good to hear it's still helping others. That fix held up till I sold the car a few weeks back and presumably still going strong. 2007 TDV8 VSE

So, I did the repair today. Put it all back together, but oddly, the lock only does that funny “half lock”. Where it catches, but the tail gate still moves back and forth. I guess I will take it apart again and see if I can see anything obviously wrong?

I can't offer any advice however it's interesting to see my lock was completely devoid of any grease compared to your one that's well lubricated. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I added spray white grease. There was some yellow multipurpose type grease there already, but I thought add some more. I assumed it would be the last time it was opened. But something is not quite catching properly. So I will go back in again tomorrow. 2007 L322 TDV8 3.6 Vogue SE

Probably a good move to grease it. Was your spring broken like mine?

So, after further investigation today, it appears the latch/ lock is fully working, but not when the trim cover is fitted! As soon as I fit that the latch only does the half lock thingy. So I will leave the trim off for now.

At least the latch repair itself was actually successful though. 2007 L322 TDV8 3.6 Vogue SE
