A question to those with vent seats. With the recent hot weather, I finally had the chance to test my cool seat function properly, turned it on full, the seat base cushion felt cold , but the back cushion seemed normal.

Is that normal? Or should I take it to LR dealer to get it checked?

My seat did the same when used during the recent hot spell, i.e. cold base / normal back. I even switched off the base so that just the back would be cooled but it still didn't appear any cooler.

When I have used it on cooler days (to test it) I noticed that both the base and back were cooled. I wonder whether the effectiveness is reduced when the aircon is working hard to cool the rest of the cabin?

Seriously, it was a genuine question.

The cooling on my seats only extends part way up the back to about kidney level, I do not think they are designed to cool the whole back.

Note you can toggle between base only and base and back by pressing the button on a cooling or heating cycle. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

I tried my vent seat again today with just the seatback turned on, turned my radio off, and air-con off. I could clearly hear fans spinning inside the tophalf of the seatback, could feel a tiny breeze coming out of the perforated leather, but not cooled air

Could anyone on here with vent seats try my method, and see if it does the same thing?

What we do for science just been out and frozen me k******s off.
Your right the back just seems to blow air but when you have the bottom on that gets cool - maybe its to protect our friends across the pond so they don,t claim off LR for cold kidneys!!- mind you they might claim for frozen k******S!!

Glad I found this reply as I have the same experience so it seems to be fairly normal behaviour. Seat cooled well but back rest seemed not to work at all. After stopping I could feel a slight air current coming through the back rest with my hand (also only about half way up) but not enough to feel it on my back. I did have the air con up high, however. The cooled seats are cooled by peltier systems and are not linked into the AC system, and contain units for seat base and seat back.

Pretty sure mine cools halfway up my back too

I've also got the cooled seats and they work exactly as you describe (2008 NAS V8 petrol HSE). I've only had it a year, so I assumed it was normal. (I was actually rather shocked that I HAD cooled seats, as I didn't know they existed before purchasing the car. The original owner was very good at checking the option boxes. )

when temps are >30 degrees, you want the cooling to work.
My FFRR went into the dealer today - cooling in seat back was not working - but cooling in seat bum bit was working fine.
Dealer informed me there was no cooling in the seats themselves (ahem....) and that the only cooling came from the seats drawing air from underneath the seat.
if i wanted more seat cooling, i had to turn up the air con, and direct it into the footwell.
I suspect I will be writing to Gaydon soon.

I don't think my seats get that cold but I don't get the wet back of my shirt that I got on my old one without the cooled seats so it must be doing something.
