Rigid Sports Bars

Hi guys,

I took the plunge and forked out for a set of roofbars for the car (VUB502790 - featured on page 28 of the accessories brochure) and attempted to fit them last night - with a problem.

I offered the bars up to the mounting points on the roof but the bars seem not to sit quite right, and when secured, the roof bars would foul against the paintwork on the roof rail. A rubber grommet between the bars and roof seems sorely missed... I discussed this with my parts department who quizzed one of their technicians (with extensive accessories experience), who incidentally thinks that this is normal?!? Shocked

Has anybody else purchased these bars? And did you experience scuffing/rubbing at the mounting points? Your input would be a bonus before I contemplate fitting again. The other bars on the sliding rails retail at around £500 including fitting by the way - daylight Censored robbery!!!

Cheers all,

Dan

You should have mounting blocks Chap

Check owner info for all the parts

Cheers Ken,

Had a look at the word doc where you point out the 6 x mounting blocks: interesting - that'd certainly prevent the bars coming into contact with the paintwork...

Also at the online fitting instructions for the sports bars - and they make no mention of these mounting blocks at all... A mistake you reckon? I can't see how they say "Go ahead and ruin your paintwork, that's how they're designed."
