Is the kit only required to retrofit to 2002-2009 models? Do MY10-12 work without the kit, i.e. just fit the paddles?

The electronics part of the kit was only designed to fit the 2002-2009 models - the ones before the rotary gear selector.

The paddles are easy enough to fit to any L322 steering wheel (see video link), though I'm not sure about getting them to work on a 2010-2012 car.
