When I bought my MY2011 4.4 Vogue I found a pre-owned iCarsoft LR V2.0 on eBay and paid about £100 delivered (you can find them cheaper on eBay and on this forum). I can only take the seller's word for it but he had it for a Jag (The LR2 can do all JLR models) and then he sold the car.
I wanted something to check the OBD's and I have found the coverage of faults to be very good and it has reassured me when a Restricted Performance code came up - Water in Fuel Sensor.
I sought (free) advice from my indy specialist who put it down to damp weather rather than water in the fuel but said keep an eye on it, and it has only popped up again after torrential rain! Incidentally the RP does not actually Restrict Performance?
I have checked the battery output and charging and run regular code checks. I updated the software which was easy and free via the iCarsoft website and there is no extra charge when you change your Land Rover or Jag - I have used it on my wife's Freelander 2
I am still learning more about the LR V2's functions which include live data, DPF regen and service resets. It is NOT an iiD. It is clunky to use with no touch screen and a hard lead to the OBD port, but for me it is a toe into the diagnostic water which could lead to me going down the iiD route. In the meantime it is a reassuring addition to my in-car toolkit.

I went back and forth debating this one and in the end, after reading the iid docs and playing with the demo I almost convinced myself to go for the iid.

I'd already got a fair price from duckworths on a new one (with a bit of a negotiation which is nice to see still happens these days) when the opportunity for a used (but never used) one came up in my wanted ad which just sealed the deal.

Since I can get hold of the ancel from time to time, at some point when I have some free time I'll try to do a side by side comparison, which might help others decide in the future

Just one point to note if you change your vehicle for a new one there isnt a charge to transfer the gap tool over, you only pay to add more vins to the tool, I haven’t used any of the others so cannot comment on those but the iid has been invaluable for my previous D3 and now my Westie 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

I had a bit of a software meltdown in mine whilst in france with the 11d tool was able to ,with the help of Gap , reload the ccs and get back to normal so it is in the car all the time

Not one to be narrow minded, I looked at the GAP web site for information and although well supported for pre 2017 cars, not so good for my MY18. Maybe this will change in the next year or so.

I had a bad experience with iCarsoft!

Ordered one from LJM Car Diagnostics.

Was poorly advised that it had been sent out and that it was Royal Mails fault for not receiving it.

Had to wait 20 days before they would refund me.

Straight out and purchased a GAP tool, no messing.

@F15KEY It seems like your problem was with RM/LJM rather than iCarsoft. I know its annoying but fairly sure that's standard policy with some RM shipping methods so the seller wouldn't have been able to make a claim for those 20 days. It sucks but not really a reason not to go iCarsoft.

@Dean_C No doubt the iCarsoft is the cheaper option at the beginning and im sure it would have served most of my needs, as discussed here, the resale values for IID are pretty decent which, when coupled with the fact it's not hardwire, the seemingly excellent support (no first hand experience with that yet) and quality documentation, are the reasons I decided to go with the IID.

If it's an option, keep an eye out on here for used ones coming up, there was one for sale a few days ago (if a little pricey imo). I managed to bag a used (but never used) IID from a member here that was just a few months old for £350 with no owner transfer fees to pay. Given that I'll get a good chunk of that back if/when I no longer need it, I have no regrets and im safe in the knowledge it will do everything I need.

I’m going to get the gap tool

I have a icarsoft, it told me a heap of things were wrong with the car.
I deleted the faults but they came back.
It told me that one senser was open circuit, so I replaced the sensor
Once I replaced the sensor, it was unable to delete the faults.
I had perversely bought a IIDTOOL which I find harder to use, but it delated the faults, no problem at all and none of the have come back RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I just a few days ago used a mobile engineer to see if he could do anything about clearing the three regular alerts I've been getting in my 2012 Westy for three years now (BLIMEY!!!) in which two LR '''''specialists''''' outfits and my local reputable car ''engineer'' have tried to '''diagnose''' and clear at some total cost of about £250.00 to me, and which they never cleared and simply blamed everything other than the moon - and this guy the other day cleared them and they haven't come back, using his LAUNCH PRO 129X diagnostics device...
The codes were:
Emergency Brake Assist not available...
HDC not available...
Stability Control not available...
What he found was that the steering wheel geometry (is that what you call it) was out by about 18-degrees, which he easily re-calibrated before my very eyes, and suggested that some '''engineer''' three or more years ago must have adjusted some wheel dynamic/s and not told the on-board system what had been done...
And so now I know why we in the UK didn't invent the Saturn 5 space rocket...

I'm using JLR's SDD, and although it can be a pita to use, you get everything done on your L322 same as at your dealer
