Used the pre heater for the first time this morning. How long does it take to heat up? I only put it on about 15 mins before I got in and I could hear the fans going but the car didn't seem to have warmed up. 2011 Vogue SE TDV8

It will only run for about 20 minutes. It doesn’t get that hot though, just enough to take the edge off. There are loads of threads on it. Folk talking about if where you have the temp dials makes a difference etc. Don’t think they affect it, as the FBH is it’s own system.

A number of factors can affect it, like battery level and fuel level. I can hear mine running and can see the exhaust working, under the passenger side front wheel, near where the mudflap would go…..

Std run time for an FBH is 30 mins. Ours gets quite warm by the end. Might be worth giving yours a service… quite a few tips on here or D3 L322 2007 TDV8 3.6

I think the run time is reduced on the later models.

….. just checked, it’s the Max AC that’s 20 mins, not the FBH.

Looks like that’s still 30 mins as mentioned above.

See if it’s any better if you activate 30 min before you leave.

My owners handbook for the 3.6 2010 states 20 minutes for the FBH to run, I think the petrols may be 30 minutes plus the older diesels. Definitely 20 minutes for the diesel from 2010.

To be fair, that’s what I thought. Can’t remember where I saw it.

You can change the run time, using the remote, nothing to do with the settings in the car.

It’s in the Webasto manual.

Not tried it myself though….

I’ve only recently started using the FBH, and haven’t got to the bottom of these types of questions.
I do find that it only takes the chill off. Enough to defrost and de-mist the windows.

I am very aware that battery levels have stopped mine from running as long as I think it should have been (I’ve seen the low battery warning as I got in and started the car) but am aware I may need a new battery… or have a small battery drain issue. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

After having tried mine a few times and not thinking it was working, we had a very hard frost the other day, so I decided to give it a go and low and behold, it worked a treat. Defrosted the windscreen and side windrows a treat. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I don’t think it’s supposed to do any more than that really.

Haven’t used it on the 405 much but the one on the 2012 did warm the cabin a bit, not much though unless it ran for the full time, the one on the D4 runs until the car is started and I’ve had it on for over 1/2 hour on cold mornings. it never does much other than defrost the windows and make the car not freezing. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

L322s with the AGM batteries have an adjusted FBH cycle time of 18 minutes

I also have MY11 diesel
Dials inside do nothing ...
15 degrees and below, it heats the cabin
5 degrees and below it heats the engine

L322s with the lead acid batteries had a 30 minute cycle time and were great !

Plenty of reasons why FBH won’t work properly..... wiki is your friend.
