Anyone here into RC cars or planes? I have a servo question

I'm working on an automation project for the house....

I need something to move/swing 90 degrees at the press of a button and I found those servoless retractable landing gear units on ebay.

Wondering if anyone could explain how I would hook it up to a switch without it all getting too complicated...

Have tried a couple of RC forums and nada....

Thanks in advance!!

. Cheers, Greg

Hi,
Its fairly straight forward. RC Servo's in general work on a pulse width to set the desired position, 1.5 MSec is centre, 1 MSec full one way and 2 Msec full travel the other way. Dependent on what youre doing a lump of veroboard, 555 timer and a handful of components could do it or a Arduino processor could be programmed to do it and many other things very nicely. BMW i3 Electric Car

John!
Ok you said it's pretty straight froward then all the words following sound really complicated..!
For me anyway.
Do you think there is something simple off the shelf I could buy?

. Cheers, Greg

I am an ex modeller but I am not an expert on the retract you link to.

These retracts are available from many uk stores just search for rc retracts, I would then suggest you contact a uk supplier and ask.
From what I can see these look to be a retract that does not require a separate servo as the servo is built in. It has 3 wires which would be positive, negative and a PCM line, as ajgalaxy said.

The reason for this is that this retract plugs into an rc receiver which use PCM to control the servos that are connected to it.
However when I used to fly the servo/retract was plugged into a channel which on the transmitter had a switch to lower/raise the retract. So you could go that route and buy a transmitter/receiver from one of the model shops, that would be easy to do.

Controlling a servo via others methods is easily achieved as ajgalaxy said but only if you are competent with electronics or computers like the Raspberry Pi or Arduino.

I hope that helps

Could you give a little more detail of what youre trying to achieve (by pm if you prefer)? I can program an arduino board for you that you could adjust end stops of ordinary servo's, set the speed of operation all triggered from a single input. Arduino's are circa £6-£10 so not expensive. BMW i3 Electric Car
