Another compressor thread

Can't see any concise info on this;

What's the best compressor to purchase for my 2011 tdv8 4.4? Once I have things working I'll maybe look at refurbishing the existing one. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'

When I looked into this recently this is what I found;
Hitachi is OE.
Copies are available cheaper.
Rebuilds are feasible as long as the cylinder bore is not scored which you won’t know until you dismantle it.

Mine is ‘tired’ but still working OK and I’ll probably buy cheap if it fails as I’m not planning on keeping the car that long. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Mine isn't running at all - need to see if there's a way to force it in Gap otherwise I'll just replace the entire thing and see about rebuilding the 'old' one. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'

Refurb it.

Cylinder and piston on mine was fine, the seal however was toast. Christian.

If its not though, I'd be without the car.

Not sure how this one works though - is it like the P38 where you can remove the compressor without the system depressurising? 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'

When I removed mine it depressurised the reservoir, took about 15 minutes to vent down.

I think that refurbishing them normally is successful if you are handy with the spanners. It's either £80 and a chance or £400 for a replacement. Christian.

Think I'll buy cheap t get things 'sorted for now' and then look at refurbing the AMK one that's in it.

The good thing for me at least is that there are no leaks. It hasn't dropped at all since I've had it even though the compressor never runs.

Fingers crossed all is okay when the replacement arrives tomorrow! 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'
