Think maybe I'd they done something similar to a cbt for a trailer tests and said you gotta keep redoing your cat every three years unless you can evidence you drive professionally with a trailer I.e hgv class 1 or c1+e.

I remember when I picked my first range rover up with the van, first thing I always do is take it for a quick drive too see how it feels. First time felt just a tad wobbly on the back so into the next layby and let it roll forward 6 inches then it felt stable but I fear plenty of people won't understand weight balance, maintenance etc on a trailer

The complexity of towing a trailer or caravan is further compounded by the LAWS surrounding the requirement for rear view interior and exterior mirrors. The caravan club give a good guide but the relevant RTA "construction and use" legal requirements and EEC directives (some still in force in the UK) should also be considered.

By research, intelligent learning and gaining experience. I know this isnt the answer I truly do BUT the point is the towing test was no guarantee. It should been made compulsory to do an approved towing course with an ADI 'testing you' at the end. That would have ticked a lot of boxes, 2 day course with day 1 in the classroom, day 2 practical etc or similar. BMW i3 Electric Car

For anyone that read this topic the goverment have delayed the new rules on towing and it will no longer come into force from the 15/11/2021. The Gov wesite now says.
"The rules about what you can tow will not be changing on 15 November 2021. The change will be introduced at a later date, and as soon as possible."

Ive just spoken to a friend that has an Ioniq 5, towing a 1300Kg caravan with a consumption of 1.8m / Kw. That seems pretty good. BMW i3 Electric Car

Seems it was the month after…..

I’m starting to ponder towing with electric vehicles. Trouble is our vans are about as large as is legal and the Kia Nero wouldn’t do it, the larger SUVs might like the Audi or Merc, but even then the range would be terrible, and I’m not sure sites would be favourable to having a EV plugged into their bollards…… There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Big issue with the majority of charging points being only single vehicle pull in approach. Have to uncouple and secure trailer/ caravan then recharge. Given a 80 - 100 mile range going to make very slow progress with a lot of exertion. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23
