2015 Autobiography or 2017 Vogue SE

Morning all and thanks for a great forum. Loads of useful information.

So with a growing family (just had twins) I've made the decision to go for a Range Rover. test driven a few of them and love the car and in particular the drivetrain. The V8 diesel with the ZF gearbox is simply great.

So I've nailed it down to a couple of cars and not sure how best to proceed. Just after some advice / input.

The first car is a 2015 Autobiography 4.4 V8 with 70k miles on it. Good history and coming from a reputable independent dealer.

The second car is a 2017 Vogue SE, 4.4 V8 with 100k miles. This would be a private sale.

Currently my preference is leaning towards the Vogue SE as I won't be doing mega mileage and the appeal of the update infotainment is a big draw. Also bizarrely the lower tax levels are also a plus (not sure why as it accounts for less than 2% of the cars value!

Anyway your wisdom or thoughts on this would be great appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

I think you called out the major change which is the infotainment. If it was me once your spec needs are met then I would be looking to buy the 'best' overall vehicle so that would be on condition and history. 100k miles is not big mileage and assuming they have been its been maintained well it should serve you for many more years. Just budget for brakes and suspension components as if not already done they may require a refresh at that age/milage.

Good luck with your purchase

Don't forget that you can upgrade the infotainment system for <£1k and have Apple or Android carplay. Upgraded from a Defender. Having a working heater is bloody luxury Smile

From around 65 plate onwards they fitted AdBlue which will half the road tax bill. That'll be why the 2017 is cheaper road tax.

Personally, I prefer the look of the screens in the 2017 so when the time eventually comes it'll be a 2017 car that I'm looking for.

You didn't say what the respective prices are for each car. That's a biggie!

Assuming they are similar priced another consideration for you is whether the fact that the 2015 car is, it seems, non-ULEZ outweighs the extra 30K miles on the 2017 model.

Personally I'd make sure my next car is ULEZ complaint and so on that basis I'd go for the 2017 model.

If the 2015 version was a MY65 and so ULEZ complaint I'd go for the one with mileage under 100K - whatever we think about the durability of these cars, the value falls off a cliff once it hits 100K. L405 4.4 AB Loire Blue

And a Warranty over 100k miles is declined by many companies due to the mileage, or the cost is excessive or the repairs are limited to a low value ceiling 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thanks everyone for the replies. Really informative and helpful.

Value-wise they are both priced similarly and I won't be doing mega miles so I anticipate the higher mileage car will level itself out over a few years of ownership!!

Thanks again and will let you know how I get on!

I do hope that is not the Vogue Centre.
I've not had a good experience with them.

I must admit they are trying to make amends.
So now, as it stands, I could only be £212 out of pocket for having to pay myself to fix faults, instead of £612.

But we will see what happens.

I think its after April 2015 that the road tax is £385, a good saving. or is it 2015 that are the first AdBlue cars?
