Hi Scarey,

Have you thought about getting it reconditioned, an auto electrician did mine last week, they fitted a new pinion as the clutch mechanism wasn't working correctly - only cost £80.

Symptoms: Car started first turn of the key sometimes then would just turn over and over other times.

Saying that a new one is only around £150

@hoppy...got a little 'screech' for a second when starting from cold, after that its ok..as this started after i went swimming with the range on salisbury plain, my son reckons its the bearing which has dried out..next step is to take out the starter , lubricate and refit...if this doesnt work then a new starter will be required...

@L.M. thanks for the info...there are secondhand ones on ebay for £40/50 and recons for £90'ish.. ... - .- -.
