Gearbox and engine fault?

Hello chaps,

Familiar story unfortunately. I just sold the td6 and bought an 06 4.4v8 petrol. I've left for work in the states and the car was running fine until I got an email from wifey saying, I've got a warning on the new car.

First one was, transmision fault, limited gears only. Then when she left the in-laws, it gave engine fault and left the yellow engine light on?

So is the gearbox screwed or is it maybe a battery issue?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated,

Phooey

Any early thoughts would be helpful as I'm about 3000 miles away, and if it's terminal I'm just going to dump the car with the dealer, I've not the time nor the patience on this unfortunately. Sad

That looks local Smile are they anything to do with K-Motors?

Them boys are in Preston. Can you recommend these people?

I'm going to get the wifey to call the AA in to check the Battery condition first. If it's OK, dealer can have it back, it's within the 3 months. In fact I only bought it about 2 weeks ago!

No they are nothing to do with K Motors.

The mess K Motord made of my mates SC over 3 months I would not take a skate board to them.

Independant Landrovers in Preston, as per link, had it for 24 hours, fixed the fault / repaired K Motors mess and fixed an extra sensor fault for less than K Motors charged for labour Whistle

No, it was an Indy down in Leicester. I'm hoping it's just the battery, on the drive home there wasn't a whiff of bother or any indication of trouble. Then the car was left for about 4 days and the faults popped up, gearbox one seems to have just been transient, just engine system fault remaining now?????

Not much I can do until I'm home.

Cheers anyway mate.

sounds like a battery related issue to me, i'd stick a new battery on anyway - cars are often left on a dealer forcourt with flat batteries for weeks, then when sold they are knackered and can only hold a limited charge.

I had mine tested and it read ok, but it was goosed. A new battery sorted it. For the sake of £100 odd quid I'd eliminate the battery first - and claim it back off the selling dealer. Or get them to pay for it in the first place, its a cheaper first option for them than calling them or another garage out.

Yup if I were a gambling man I'd say battery. Bit of an update, had the father-in-law put a multi-meter on the battery to see if it was anything obvious, 12v resting and 15v with the engine running Shocked

Maybe that was just after starting??? but 15v seems a tad high, I'd have expected more like 13.5ish. Anyway, after 3 days of light use, amber engine light check has gone out. No lurching or noises, no temp issues, so fingers crossed it was just due to inactivity. I'll have it serviced and a good once over when I get back for peace of mind. May even treat the old girl to a battery Smile

On a lighter note, i'm over in West Palm Beach, so I've filled my suitcase with lovely Meguiars car kit. After reading so much about it, I thought I'd give it a try and Wal Mart are selling it cheap.

Pictures to follow gents when I'm home and the cars looking all gleaming!

Thanks a lot for the input.

Got back yesterday, can't believe the weather, sunny Blackpool is actually starting to live up to it's name, though it was pretty fine all the way up.

PS You wouldn't happen to be called Mark would you Noddy?
