Has the Range Rover finally lost it's identity with the L460

Firstly, I don't want to sound like a contradiction, as many of you know I have an L460 on order, and also a new L405 due for delivery this month. To this moment, I'm still unsure which of these two will stay long term.

I also have a very classic 2007 MY L322 in Buckingham Blue with Parchment (no privacy glass), so I also do really love that "classic" Range Rover look. This is my daily driver and the car which I'm most attached to.

On the subject of new models ageing well, re; the steering wheel on the L460 which has been raised and the evolution of the new Range Rover in general, has the new L460 finally gone too far - Is this the end of the classic design?

I stumbled across this video this morning and thought how this L405 does still have that classic look, particularly from the outside (shown best at 1.49 minutes onwards). I think set against the snow, this car looks absolutely stunning!

As much as I do really like the look of the new L460, I'm not sure you can recreate this kind of "classic look" anymore with those black lights and smooth edges - Has the new Range Rover finally lost it's traditional identity?

Your thoughts?

I think quite the reverse - the L405 to L460 seems the most evolutionary change of model so far.

I'm not entirely sure......

While I do think it looks like a stunning car in a very "modern" way, and I have no doubt that it will continue to perform exceptionally well off road, and even better on road. However, I'm just not sure whether by achieving the above, the L460 has somehow lost that utilitarian look.

I agree but was that not already the case with the 405?

I would argue that the L322 and Disco 4 were the last Land Rovers with a utilitarian feel?

At the same time, the more I see it, I think the L460 is a fantastic successor to the L405.

The exterior. imho, looks more majestic. RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

I have to agree with jackie-o I felt my old L322 shared some DNA with the Defender I owned at the time, I am not sure I feel the same about the L405 I still love it but in a different way.

This is how I see a Range Rover chunky tyres, capable and fit for a Queen:

I know the L405/L460 are probably way beyond in terms of capabilities but I do feel the L322 is maybe the last of that classic look?

As an overall package, yes, I would completely agree with you both about the L322, which is why I still drive mine daily:

However, looking at the green L405 in that video, for me, externally at least, I think it still looks classic Range Rover, whereas the new one is a completely different slick proposition.

Maybe with time, we'll look back on the L405 with more fondness - Especially examples like the green one featured in that video.

As for heading to Autotrader for a green L322, I'm set up to receive alerts everyday, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, especially if you want green, petrol and low mileage.... I live in hope!

Green or blue both for me give that classic look... I love the blue on the L405 and it was a tough choice between green and blue but ultimate the correct car came up in blue.

YIKES...... Looks like there's going to be some competition if the right car comes up!

Dark blue is also classic Range Rover, and I do feel lucky to have the L322 I've already got - Paid £12,500 for it, 4.4 V8 Jaguar Petrol engine, with 6 speed box, only 52k miles, one owner and full LRSH, and that was back in 2014!!! Such a bargain, where did those prices go?

Would just like a nice green one to go with it Thumbs Up

I just bought this 2012, last of the line 5.0SC 55K one owner.FSH £30k from a dealer. A lot for a 9 year old but seems the decent ones do sell quickly.
I'll write a longer post with better photos and why I chose this over a L405.

Its an interesting thought that you prefer the L322 over the 405 as the feeling of the cars are completely different. Its heart over head.

I wonder if it will be the same with the L405 compared to the L460 as they are much more similar and the L460 likely better in every way. Both are perhaps less heart and more head and so the L460 will always be superior.

In time the L405 will just be viewed as a slightly less L460

Dont know if I´m making any sense here.... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

I think the paint options for the L460 does not help in the soul department either.

Here they dont offer any classic land rover greens or blues, dont know if its different in the UK?

They do have 50 shades of grey along with black packs and shadow backs and so on but the old green over tan seems to be gone....

Not saying they dont look good but its far from the county spec defender.... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

I would have thought Belgravia Green would be fairly close to the ebay car's green in the link above. It's hard to tell for sure on the configurator though. Portofino Blue is also a classic dark blue.
