ABS ECU and IID Tool (Solved)

On a short trip to take SWMBO for her second COVID jab, the 3 amigos put in an unexpected appearance for no apparent reason, with only the standard faults codes seen by the IID Tool:

1. 0x32 CAN bus fault
2. 0x57 Air suspension active/inactive

When I got home I reset the codes and for good measure did a battery reset and steering angle calibration, however on a subsequent journey there was a small grab on one of the front wheels as I slowed for a junction, but no fault codes or indication were seen.

Later in the same journey there was a bigger grab from what seemed to be the OSF, and the 3 warning lights appeared and again only the above faults read off the IID Tool.

With no other faults logged, I'm leaning towards a failed front OSF ABS sensor, but is there any other way of getting more ABS detail from the IID Tool, or am I restricted because its an 04 model?

Out for a short journey this morning, no faults appeared until I stopped at the end of the journey with the engine running. 2 additional codes appeared this time:

0x52 Yaw rate sensor open circuit
0xB Battery Disconnect Unit 1 (ARM - Airbag)

Tried taking live readings of the 4 wheel/ABS sensors, but all 4 went to NA after setting off, so i'm leaning towards either the ABS ECU or the DSC sensor under the centre console (given the new code) rather than an actual ABS sensor.

The only odd fault is the airbag one.... David

After talking to Patrick at GAP, I managed to get the wheel speed readout that showed all 4 ABS sensors working correctly.

So bought a used ABS ECU and swapped them over, however new one needed VIN coding before it would work.

IID Tool can't do this so tried all the usual local Land Rover specialists, but no one had either the Testbook/T4 or Autologic equipment that seem to be the only 2 systems that can recode an ABS ECU, not even the main dealers! Shocked

Eventually found the excellent Rob at Winston Pincombe in Chumleigh had Autologic, and after only 15mins with him, job done. All working normally again. Very Happy David

Hi Crowebeard

I have just seen this post and I have almost identical issues to you on my 03 4.4v8.

Can you tell me if once you changed the abs ecu (and prior to the fella in Devon recoding it) whether the faults dispeared (but presumably the abs etc didnt work).

Hi Neil

Yes it did clear the Yaw and CAN bus faults, but the ABS, HDS and inactive suspension lights/faults remained until the unit was recoded. I did try changing the yaw sensor before the ABS ECU, but gave up half way through as it's a bit of a pig to get to.

Hope you get it sorted soon, the brake grabbing is a bit disconcerting to say the least! Laughing

Hi David, thank you for solving this SRS Airbag error - my IID was throwing up the same error on my 2004 4.4 Petrol BMW engine, and the below fix worked for me using GAP IID scanner Smile
