That’s a lot. I notice the current Sport/Velar ‘e’ models are c.£5-7k more than the equivalent D300.

It all comes down to rate of depreciation in the end rather than price. Will have to wait and compare their PCP residuals to see if it’s worth spending the extra for a PHEV. MY23 D350 HSE

My initial reactions haven't been favourable however having watched some of the review vids flooding onto YouTube, it is growing on me.
I think the actual images/videos are more complimentary than the official retouched/renders.

Likes:
- The 'shoulder' line where it protrudes Volvo style outwards from the side windows an inch or so.
- Most of the interior except the tablet screen
- Integrated event seating, such a simple idea
- Vertical tail lights (but not the strip)
- Overall body shape - I think it will handle a 10-year cycle
- Technical stuff, RWS and decoupling front axle
- SV wheels with the copper accent
- 7 Seat option (about time)
- LWB model retains a balanced overall look, unlike the 405
- Grey or darker colours working much better for me because the horizontal rear strip will disappear like those black pillars on an XJ351

Hate:
- Door vent WTH was Gerry thinking
- Tablet screen, not good and the front dash, whilst nicely trimmed is unremarkable
(same as 405 i.e. unremarkable but not 322 front dash is a design icon)
- Lettering size on rear too big, take it down a few point sizes
- Black trim strip above lettering sits on
- Front end, just bland
- Slit rear sidelights. I understand a requirement in some markets but why not integrate them into the side 'V' crease. Big miss there
- Some of the wheels look super cheap
- Concealed rear indicators are interesting but badly executed within the space of the strip.
(Curious about regs because I though all rear lights can't be on a moving panel in most markets)
- Matt paint finishes; a trend which'll date quickly, no need to stoop to gimmicks IMO

Really can't decide:

-Steering wheel it kinda should look good, the individual elements are lovely but somehow doesn't come together and looks out of place

I think the third refresh so like 2026 it will start to work better mainly due to the nose treatment.

With these evolutionary design changes, and it's a similar pattern with many all-new car designs, they start to dovetail the old and new designs so the run out model gets treatments nearer the new model. And the incoming models are almost throttled back to keep some familiarity. I guess this is an anti-alienating strategy.

The Revolutionary design of the L322 kept some fundamental design codes eg clam shape and turreted bonnet, floating roof etc but trailblazer into new areas, making new traditions, new design codes eg front wing gills. I don't think the 405 introduced any iconic new Range Rover design codes.

When I first saw a 322 it went on the bucket list that same moment. It's because it was revolutionary and, owning a last update 2011 I think the design nicely matured and over it's cycle. 405's are nice/fine but I'm just not drawn emotionally to the design. Oddly in IMO it was a trying to revolutionise but it didn't and I don't think think it was a strong evolution either despite retaining hallmark features.

Ground breaking design takes a guiding, unrelenting vision. Steve Jobs' iPhone was his baby and his vision ensured it was a revolutionary product.

But we're here to talk about the 460. It's got more design style than the 405. The Range Rover business is good and as a business, the design is led by focus groups because so brevity takes a back seat because the stakes are too high and they've gone with evolutionary for safety.

What's also holding back design revolution for LR, aside of the high stakes, are the Evoque-onwards design thematics (ie. Gerry) which are, on the whole and in my opinion trying too hard eg 405 swept back headlights and tail lights. Or the 405 door vent. It makes no sense on the door. I know why the put it there, it would have look too far forward on the wing, but it's just awkward. As is the silver strip running from the door vent. They only look good when you make them disappear into body colour.

I do think the 460 is a strong evolution but the designers need time with it, which is pretty normal. Once in a while though, designs are visionary enough to revolutionise and those don't come along too often no matter the brand. I think the 322 was one of those rare revolutionary designs that was both a design icon on release and also matured extremely well.

I'll wind up soon but if I could time-travel I'd be fascinated to hear what die hard RR Classic and P38 owners thought about the L322 on release. Did they rubbish it? Not sure. But as far as the 460 goes, there's more negative comments on this thread than positive. And for me it didn't take me immediately like the 322 did.

Only time will tell future 460 owners. it's an expensive club to join so all the best whatever colour you choose. if anyone could PM me coming Friday's EuroMillions numbers, I'll see you at Guy Salmon.

And I'd park a 460 next to my 322.

I am in the “die hard “ club, particularly for Classic design, but I bought a P38 almost at the end of production, when all the rumours were starting in the magazine’s (no internet) that the new model L322 would soon be released.
Granted, my decision to buy was influenced very heavily by the huge discount my local dealer was offering to clear his stock by the end of December 1999, and the trade in deal he offered me.,

I was invited to their “official L322 launch event” and as soon as I saw the L322 I knew that it was a winner and that I would eventually trade up from P38 to L322.

I have never had that “urge” to trade up to a L405, even now I could afford to look for a 2017/18 model ,but still think it doesn’t compare to the L322 magic.

My only driver to eventually jump up to an L405 will be Euro5 cars being taxed off the roads eventually.

Thats what concerns me. I can't remember who said it but one of the reviews stated that the weight of the new RR has increased by 200kg over the old one on average. Arent car manufacturers supposed to be saving the planet by using ever more exotic materials to make cars lighter?

And yes the PHEV version with a bloody great big 38kWh battery onboard is probably going to weigh about 2800kg. What's that going to do for the ride and handling given that the existing P400e hardly excels at either?

Maybe they’ve dropped it to stop people calling the whole range the ‘Vogue’. It brings it into line with the rest of the range and helps justify the price increase (which I think is fair based on the spec increases) because as it starts with SE rather than S. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I think Harry said it but I would be very surprised if he's right. Car manufacturers have to hit certain EU mandated fuel consumption and emissions targets for their range and that has to mean encouraging consumers to buy more of their PHEV and EV models. Most manufacturers are pricing their PHEV models close to the equivalent diesel or petrol models in terms of power. Certainly a premium of £15k would put me off replacing my existing P400e with a 440e or 510e because any fuel consumption/tax savings would be more than offset by the extra cost of the car. I would go back to diesel myself if that was the case
