Dealer won’t replace brake pads without replacing discs

Posted this on the Sport forum as well but seems more active on here. On here as we have a FFRR AB as well.

Dropped our 2020 SVR (which has done 24,000 miles) in for the front and rear brake pads to be replaced and during the health check they recommended that the front and rear discs also need replacing as well at an extra cost of over £2k.

This would be the first car in history for me where both the front and rear pads AND DISCS would need replacing at 24k miles and we’ve owned at lot of cars including Bentley, BMW, Mercedes as well as a 2017 RR Sport. None of these needed front and rear discs replacing at 24k miles.

He’s saying he won’t change the pads without replacing discs as well even though they did that with our previous RR Sport.

Are they taking the absolute pi** or are the discs really made out of play dough on these SVR’s?

Anyone know any good indie’s around north or west London?

Can you ask for the thickness and compare against new / minimum? They are genuinely super heavy on disc’s.

That being said, ours got flagged for front disc’s one service, then rears but not fronts (back in the green) on the next… just like pad thickness grew Rolling with laughter no issues on the MOT and a check reviewed they were about 50% worn.

I have a bit of a distrust for such items, so generally just double check them myself. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Yeah I’ll ask them and see what they say. They’re saying it’s because they are “slightly lipped and worn” as their reasoning for changing the discs. They’re saying the won’t just put the brake pads on because they will get “ripped apart” according to the supervisors words.

Is this true or am I being told porkies?

Haha so yours grew thickness as if by magic 😂

I found you have to do it on a PC… and browse to the PDF when you add it. Then when it’s added, you have to add the bbcode or whatever it’s called to your forum post…..

£2000 to replace the front and rear discs in addition to the cost of replacing the pads all round? On a 2020 car that has only done 24k miles. Why are you asking, your main dealer is taking the proverbial big time. Wink Smile

I can see why someone with an 'in warranty' car would want to retain a main dealer service history - I did.

But for absolutely everything else, a good independent is the way to go IMHO

Slightly lipped disc will in no way rip apart new pads, the new pads will wear to the shape of the disc and work fine...

I would ask to see the pads as well and get them to measure the remaining material in front of you, unless you have been doing trackdays then I can't see you need new anything.... Pete

Nope no track days. Just been driven on motorway mostly with the rest being driven around town.

This will make you laugh….

They refused to do it in the end so we made a complaint with the service manager. When we got there the manager walked round with the supervisor looking at the discs and the manager just took his side and said they would get done for manslaughter if anything happened. I had a look and there is barely a lip on them.

I then queried the price and said how comes when I booked it in I was quoted £750 for front and rear pads and sensors (including labour and vat) and now you’re saying it’s going to cost an additional £2,043 for front and rear discs. He said it was a typo and that was the price all in for everything which still doesn’t add up because it’s still being quoted as an additional £1,300 for discs. I said them that it feels like they are price gauging and trying to take the pi**.

So I decide to phone their booking call centre in front of him and get a quote for the exact parts and work they were quoting of £2,043, their own booking centre quoted it as £1,444 all in for absolutely everything. The manager was stuttering going “errr… errr.. they must have quoted the wrong parts.” Got them to repeat back the parts and compare it to his and they were the same. He then goes “No they’ve obviously got something wrong somewhere, we are quoting you the correct price”. I just said give me the keys and drove off.

£230k in cars we’ve bought from them over the past year and this is the service we get. Sad thing is they don’t even care. Really puts me off ever buying one of these cars again.
