Yes, AC isn’t just for hot weather…. you can condition red hot air if you like….

Don’t turn it off… the refrigerant circulating round keeps all the rubber seals lubricated. They dry out over time if left and all the refrigerant leaks out, then when you finally turn the AC back on in the summer, you wonder why it doesn’t work…. And are left with a bill for potentially hundreds to get it all working again.

I was told years ago by a trusted tech to always keep the ac on for this very reason (to keep the glass clear) and also to keep the refrigerant circulating to stop the seals drying. Both my FFRR and SWMBO’s car have ac left on the whole time and set to auto. Never have misting problems and when Mrs S is with me in the FFRR she adjusts the temp on her side to suit. She knows not to touch the on/off button!

I find 1 sharp bang on the knuckles with a spanner quickly teaches them to "like" AC and leave it alone.
Don't forget it also helps prevent moisture finding it's way into the thousands of electrical connections inside a modern car.

Make sure the AC drain holes are clear. My Transporter van used to do this and when I checked the drains from the aircon the valves at the end of the drain pipes were blocked. Removed them (followed by about a gallon of water) and cleared them out and never had it since. Paul

Just feeling the carpet with your hands isn't good enough. Pull one of the floor sill plates off (they snap
On and off), and pull the edge of the carpet up a little and check for water beneath it. The carpet is a few inches above the actual floor, with a bunch of foam padding beneath the surface. So, water would have to get maybe 4+ cm deep before it would actually wet the surface of the carpet. Learned this the hard way. Using AC will de-Fogg it, but you could still have a leak anyway.

Definitely been caused by AC being off.

Try leaving the AC on these cars do not have a clutch based system they work on pressure.
the AC will be on permanently but you do not notice it when the external air temp increases so does the pressure on the AC compressor when that happens it cools the air.
with the clutch based system you hear them kick on and off.
but when on the AC will dry the air coming into the cabin.

someone mentioned the drain i would look at that too as you defiantly have a lot of water sitting some place or a compromised seal on the doors or boot. also the flaps in the engine bay may not be closing. to test them turn the car off after about a min or two you hear them close sealing the HAVAC from the external air. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
