165k mile 4.4 TDV8. A nightmare?

Are high milers worth looking at, or should they be avoided?

I would only be looking at well looked after, as I know I should buy on condition!

priced accordingly and with good service, nothing to worry about IMO.
The thing to pay attention to is rust in the rear of the sills + wheel arch rear. also tailgate.

. Cheers, Greg

Thanks. I thought I had read that they are pretty good for high mileages, just wondered what the gurus on here though. I will only be doing 10k a year and view it as a long term purchase, so I dont worry about miles toooo much.

I have also seen a lower mileage 3.6, but just dont know which way to go!

High mile late L322’s are at current (mad) market prices reasonable money for a 10yr old luxury car and low and average milers are mad money IMO. Be prepared for big bills on any similar luxury car of this age irrespective of mileage. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I think the actual mileage is irrelevant, it's whether she's been looked after.
I've had 4 Ford Galaxy's while I was on airport duty, each running up to 240k + without any real problems [Full Ford service history]. A Merc CLS with 178k & little issues.
There's a good thread on here with a TDV8 running over 333k miles & seems to be ok.
In theory, it should be cheap as chips to buy, so a war chest of folding stuff will be required.
With a lovely service history, go for it, gut feeling will play a big part in your decision.
We'll be interested which way you go so please let us know. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Thanks. I am also considering at a little older 4.2 SC. The miles I do mean that fuel doesn’t really bother me .

Just for a little bit of fun I hit the calculator: Far too much time on my hands I know! Laughing

10k miles pa at say 12mpg [4.2SC] = 833 gals @ £6 per gal = £5k
10k miles pa at say 25mpg [4.4 TDV8] = 400 gals @ £6 per gal = £2400

There will be some argument about the above figures but I suppose if you figure the TDV8 will do 50% more mpg than the 4.2SC then there's quite a difference.
T'is your money therefore your choice, have fun looking. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Thinking of 10k or less. Maintenance I will do myself (I had a disco 4 for years and did everything on that, which was a lot 😂). Edging towards a S/C at the minute, but there are some nice ones for sale including the 3.6 on here.

I am not usually so hopeless at decisions, but I want whatever I get to be good for enough for taking to France (where I live now).

Buy a 2010 - 12, 4.4 TDV8. Best engine, gearbox, suspension bought mine with 121,000 on it. Always dreamed of owning a Range Rover since I was a lad. -----------------------

Those prices are certainly 'attractive'.....
BTW Eatons of Derby have lots of cheap L322's and I was looking at them a while back but they don't advertise on Autotrader and for some reason this put me off. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I had a 4.4 Tdv8 2011 with 183k on the clock turbos we’re done at 160k drove really nice didn’t have a towbar on it when I bought it and it was 1 family owner from new. I had it advertised on the forum for £7k a couple of months back and had no takers it had a couple of issues eventually sold it for £6k so trade wise prices are on the floor but the retail markup is phenomenal.
Good luck with your search.
