Front windows automatically lower on engine start

Evening
I’m currently pulling my hair out in frustration.

The front windows on my RR ( 2007, V8, SC Auto Supercharged) will suddenly automaticall lower all the way down on engine start up but will not go back up as long as the ignition key is in and the engine running. Not even an inch.

BUT...said windows will happily and problem free fully raise and lower with the key fob, i.e when super locking and unlocking the car.

Earliest a RR dealer or other savy 4x4 mechanic can look at it is the 20th October.

If this was balmy, sunny California, this would be not a problem. But driving for weeks in wet Devon with both of the front windows fully open is an issue. And I need the car.

Since those windows will raise fine with the key fob it can’t be a window motor issue. Any ideas for a temporary fix? Don’t care if windows don’t open for a couple of weeks but not closing is a major issue. Thanks very much.

Pull the fuse for the windows... should stop them working...

It maybe more than one fuse, download the Workshop Manual from the WIKI that will help.... Pete

Apart from pulling the fuses, which is obviously a good idea -

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but to me this fault sounds more like a problem with the BCM, (body control module), which is under the front passenger seat. First step would be to make sure the area under the seat is dry, with no water ingress. I have read a post about something similar due to water around this module, but can't find it at the moment. Hope this helps.

Thank you all - great suggestions.

Yes, water ingress could DEFINITELY be a factor. OH and I are terrible at diligent window shutting. Tried hairdryer at drivers door switch pack with no success.

Will now inspect and if necessary apply heat to BCM. And pull fuses at last resort.

Applying heat will make it worse, if you think it has suffered from water damage then you need to remove it and clean it with alcohol or similar, it is impurities in the water that are left after it dries that cause tracking across contacts, just heating it will not work and usually makes things worse...

TBH there is not much chance you will fix it... you need to get codes read to identify which ECU has failed (BCM is the most likely suspect but not the only possibility)

Then take it from there...

Pulling the fuses will let you drive it in warmth until it's sorted...

You could also try a battery reset... Pete
