Suspension …

Looking for a little advice. So my 2011 Rangie went into the garage for wheel alignment, all done and ok, then went in for its mot and failed on the front brake lines. Told the garage to go ahead and replace pipes that are corroded and the next thing I get is a call from them saying my front left air bag is burst. Could they have caused this while replacing the corroded lines? They have been done but need to know if I should ask if they caused this.
What would you guys do?

Whilst I would not want to make accusations, it could be possible to catch the bag with a tool, it could also be that they raised the vehicle to off road height for access room and the bag just failed at that time.

Is this a garage you trust and know well ? You could ask to see the old air bag that failed, then you will see if there is any damage to the item, or just wear and tear. Could just be coincidence, as the bag could be 10 years old.

I had a bag blow when it was up on a scissor lift. You could clearly see it was past its best.

For the last few years as the weather gets colder we have seen a spate of front left suspension air bags go on 2010-2012 models
The front left takes more punishment being on the side of the road with more holes and bumps so it goes first.

Better to have it sorted now than end up in limp mode on your bump stops on a winters day over Christmas... personally I woldnt blame the garage. I would never contradict the extra-ordinarily knowledgeable Dr Rob but I would replace rather than repair though - that rubber becomes brittle.

Good luck!

+1 for just accepting that the bag has failed through old age.
Worth getting the pair done as the other one will be on borrowed time

I have found that dirt/mud accumulates high up between the bag and the hard centre section which then rubs the bag eventually cutting little holes in the rubber. For vehicles that mainly stay on sealed surfaces I would expect the verge side one to be more exposed to dirt than the other. My vehicle which travels unsealed, often muddy roads accumulates grit on both sides. I now make a habit of regularly putting the suspension at super-extended height to hose out the dirt.

Sorry, I meant replacement bags, not repair kits per se. They do just the bag and so you can keep your strut Thumbs Up
