So with the new e10 fuel how are we finding this? Good or bad for you all. I've got a 4.2 and it seems too make it run a tad rough and throw up an engine management light but soon as I'm back on tesco momentum it disappears..

4.4 m62 range rover seems too run OK but with less mpg

Seem too get the impression it's only affecting those with turbos or superchargers. Few friends have all said the same with their tonka toys

I've not noticed any difference, and would not have given it a second thought had you not started this thread!

But I'll now keep an eye on it.

I've noticed the mpg drops maybe 2mpg on the e10 fuel so although the e5 fuel is a tad more expensive it seems too be the better one for the 4.2 at least.

Friend has a 2008 astra vxr which it's completely standard. He couldn't work out why he kept cutting out a few days ago. Turns out to be the petrol

That doesn’t sound good. I know Land Rover have said that all vehicles after 1990 something should be fine on it….

Have put e10 in and no problems .........................yet

Not really noticed any real difference to be honest. Mines the AJ engine, although that shouldn't make any difference

No issues with my m62 but I do mainly run it on lpg

Not noticed any difference in our 4.2.

Our SL350 runs exactly the same and that's a 2005.

4.2 here. I've noticed a small dip in mpg (1 or 2 per fill). Can't decide if its the fuel or the new GG AT3s  01 Disco 2 4.0 V8

This is just a synopsis not the full story but it may help....

Ethanol added to petrol will make a cleaner burn and give slightly more performance as it adds a bit of oxygen to the mix. Great for emissions and Polar Bears..

Unfortunately it doesn't have the same calorific value as petrol so you need to burn more of it...

So, you should get slightly less mpg.

It also absorbs water so is not great for anything without a sealed petrol system like petrol power tools and lawn mowers.

It is harder on fuel systems, especially seals and pipes etc, this is what the manufacturers have done, upgraded the system with better seals so it can run on it.. And a few other things...


If you have running issues then something else is wrong but is only showing up on E10 fuel, it's kind of like an early warning...

Slightly harder cold starts and earlier pinking are supposed to be the only issues, our fatties should not suffer with that as they can adjust the timing to suit...

Interestingly race fuel is E85... only 15% petrol and it makes a noticable difference to performance....  Pete

I haven't tried it, don't plan to. Normally use super unleaded in my 4.2, given I doubt they have actually tested it long term and the vehicle wouldn't have been designed with it in mind I'll wait to see if there are reports of problems in the future.
