From 28th September 2021, the distinguishing mark (or national identifier) displayed on vehicles registered in the United Kingdom that are driven abroad will change from GB to UK.

This means that vehicles registered in the UK must display the letters “UK” when driven in France and EU.

The identifier can be incorporated in vehicle number plates (along with the Union Flag) or as a separate sticker. Note that vehicles featuring the letters GB together with the Council of Europe golden stars are no longer valid for driving abroad.

If your vehicle does not have the UK identifier within the number plate, you will require a UK sticker when driving in France. GB stickers will no longer be valid from the end of September. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

This is from the gov.uk site “ If your number plate includes the UK identifier with the Union flag (also known as the Union Jack), you do not need a UK sticker.” Valid from 28 September but doesn’t work for Spain Malta and Cyprus where you will need a UK sticker anyway. John, Alistair and Mike thanks for that I will have a look... Regarding insurance, Admiral give you 90 days full comprehensive cover when out of the UK... I'll get a tag to just make things easier although I like Stans idea... I have some nice yellow jackets already...

V8 Noise, you don't need a green card any more (recent change) and you don't need an international driving licence a UK one is fine..

I have some UK stickers for the reg plate on way, far more discrete than the big UK sign... apparently it's because Northern Ireland is not in GB but it is covered by UK... Pete
