No they're not, because they're forced to reduce emissions in cars by governments. And these systems successfully fulfill this purpose. Unfortunately inherently these systems are bad for engine health and longevity, as well as for fuel economy.
So motor manufacturing industry for sure wouldn't apply those systems if they would like to offer more reliable and economic agregates. It is just that they are in a forced situation.

You just have to see the bigger picture here.

Don't want to argue about politics or phylosophy actually.
I'm more interested in any actual technical advice that has real value in this topic.

Just to add my own two penn'orth, leave the EGR and DPF alone on the 4.4.4TDV8.

That is all.

The DPF regen needs the EGR to be able to get up to temperature to regen properly.

There's the additional complication that DPF removal is an MoT fail in the UK.

I'd add Gareth Ell at Empire Tuning. He used to work at J E Engineering before he set up Empire.

Wrong... EGR is the one that lowers exhaust temperature, hence producing the soot that clogs the DPF. For DPF regen increased temperature is indeed needed and this is achieved by shutting off EGR and introducing additional fuel to the exhaust.

You wouldn't fail MoT, if You'd leave an empty shell of DPF in there and write it out of ECU. Of course, you must delete EGR also, because otherwise, you'd fail because of the soot.
