Thick White smoke!

Big Cry

Apologies for the new thread but wanted some clarity if possible.

My 2005 Vogue started making a whirring noise on Thursday followed by the most white smoke i have ever seen come out of a vehicle.

She is currently up on a ramp and the exhaust has been removed which is full of oil. 6 Litres were put into the engine and i have an idea that it may be the turbo, but thought i would put it out there to see if anyone has had a similar experience. It was the alternator 3 months ago preceded by the fuel injectors 3 month before that so please excuse the tears.

I really have had enough of throwing money at it but i don't want to toss her on the scrap heap, although I said if i did my wife would be in it as well!

Any help/ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated as i think it's time to put her to sleep..........and the Vogue!

Thanks

Did she overheat? (I mean the car!) could be head gasket, cracked head or block, white smoke would indicate steam! Best of luck.

Laughing thanks Spike.

No overheating at all - crazy.

Are reconditioned turbo's ok or best to get a brand new? Best place to get one reasonably priced?

What are you expecting the cost to be if it’s Turbo failure? visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

Probably not far off what the vehicle is worth.

Are you going to tell me different, gettingold?

Having owned a lot of turbo charged cars.....
White smoke is oil vapour from a leaking exhaust side turbo oil seal which you have already confirmed from the exhaust removal. If it was blue it would be oil being burnt in the combustion chambers which would be more serious as it would be an engine issue. Turbos are repairable depending on how far they have worn and you can buy reconditioned units so it's not necessarily a total disaster esp as if it's a 2005 it will be a single turbo.

£3K is a good price - where was that and at what miles did they let go?

If the rest of the car / engine is ok, you can get a re-furbished turbo for £300, may be worth thinking about Thumbs Up

I got it done at AJ Landrover specialists, they went at 155k one had seized solid, they sent me videos and did a full report, replaced with Borg Warner new units so I was pleased with the job

They said it was caused by an incorrectly fitted oil filter, I saw in the video they sent that it hadn’t been seated correctly and the small locator bit wasn’t located and the filter had just been placed downt and the lid squeezed back on crushing the bottom of the filter
