Are my Starting problems simply down to my battery?

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic60587.html

Back to the Start:

I replaced LR battery with Hankook Battery

Still had starting issues.

JLR said they could not fault the starting

Drove to Spain, starter motor replaced by local garage. Still not starting, they said it needed an AGM Battery. They fitted a Bosch S5 battery that I believe is not an AGM Battery.

Drove back to UK after having a new, battery and starter motor.

4 weeks later, went away. Wife moved car off drive, stopped and then it would not start.

My pal tried a jump start with leads to his van - no start
Breakdown man came, tried the same from his van - no start
Day after, recovery man came, he put jump leads on from his truck - STARTED
Took car for a drive out - parked up no start
Recovery driver returned next day - car started
Recovery driver loaded onto truck and drove to garage where it was driven off the truck
Garage - Started
Garage - not started
Garage replaced new starter with original starter

I drove to Tarbert in Scotland from Manchester
Tarbert Hotel - Started
10 min drive to Islay Ferry - Started
Check in Desk at ferry - 1st time clink / clunk 2nd time started.
Left the car running until boarded ferry
Disembarking Ferry - Started

Used car a couple of time on Island
Day before leaving, charged overnight with charger
Day of leaving - Started
Waiting to board - left running
Disembarking Ferry - Started
Filling Station - Started
Hotel - Parked up
Leaving Hotel - failed to start (I had taken a spare Trojan battery and leads)
Jump started

Then after 3 hour drive from Carlisle, I put battery charger on at home. Voltage reads 12.4v but charger says only 25% charged

Im really fed up of this saga now. For what really is an amazing car to drive with a cracking engine. When it starts

Bloody hell….. other than checking all the connections, which must have been done…. There is only the alternator left, though I’m sure you will have checked it’s charging.

As you know, battery and starter appear to fix most of the issues.

Mine clicks sometimes…. Got a new JLR battery going on Monday… but I’m suspecting a starter may be needed in due course….

Sorry I’m not much help…

When you say it doesn't start, does it actually turn over? I had a car that did that and it was a faulty crankshaft position sensor connector.

Given the fact that you've changed the battery and starter I'd be inclined to look at the ignition system. Could be something to do with the key not sending the correct info to maybe a dodgy earth strap.

Start with the free stuff like disconnecting the earth strap, getting a jump lead on it direct to the battery n see if that helps.

Been there before it intermittent starting so I know your pain

I have had no starting issues since i cleaned and tightened up the electrical's. (still observing)

This particular nut was finger tight!! so worthwhile going through main distribution. Should have change these to nyloc.

The car is very power hungry, so a functioning charging system is a must. I found the car needs to be told when you replace a battery else charging will be erratic. This will lead to > battery drain > no start also SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

It is behind the battery. The one marked was loose for me, but I removed and cleaned all of that and the box next to it as well.

Thanks everyone, my car is off the road again.

This time with another different Garage, A Range Rover Specialist.

He is suggesting the starter be replaced.

The one I had fitted in Spain only had 3.6 TDV* on the box

Get them to check, clean and test all the connections in the circuit from battery all the way to starter motor. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Dr Rob - beat me to it. Sounds very much like a connection issue than a component failure.

Thanks for the replies.

I have another new starter motor on now.

This one is a Denso,

Lets see what happens.

I had considered selling it. However. one of our daughters has boomeranged back from the middle east for 3 months and has commandeered it
