You are right in your thinking.....

I've got a TDV8 and I know my injector 8 is faulty
It shows as number 8 on the IID and shows 8 on the rocker cover.

Can you swap two of your injectors round and re-run IID ? - that should confirm your numbering positions.

Just for my info - what values are you getting on the faulty one and on the other 7 ?
(I'm getting 1376 on the faulty one and 390 (ish) on the rest - Overall tickover feels a bit lumpy

What error code/message are you seeing that is suggesting your injector is faulty?

I'm getting injector balance offset reading which are about 960 to 1150 but injector 3 just before going into restricted performance mode runs down to about 600 while all the rest go up to 1350 1400. Error codes are low fuel rail pressure and low injector pressure 87 and 91. I am just in the process of running out low pressure fuel pump and then it will be injectors out again for bench test and if that's not it then lastly, check for possible dicky senser and or high pressure pump. Tbh I think injectors are leaking off to much but can't seem to run lpfp. Wanted to test tonight but only got as far as removing rear carpet and plugs when I got dark.

To respond to the two previous posts....

Very occasionally I get a P0284-00(C) Cylinder 8 contribution/balance code. It goes away and stays away for the most part after being cleared.

Interestingly my balancing offset readings are very different to Landmarks. 7 of my cylinders are all at or about 590 only number 8 is wide of the mark at 1376.

From switch on; the 7 start higher and then work their way down over a couple of minutes running. Number 8 starts at 1376 and never moves.

Why am I so sure I have a dodgy injector in cylinder 8 ? - Well, I just replaced the head gasket and as you may be aware injector 8 is a right pain to get out. So I went for the remove the solenoid from the top of the injector stem ! - and voila - it no longer works properly !! - That's my theory.

So I'm about to swap no 6 and no 8 using the lift the engine method and see if my problem jumps to no 6 - I'm almost convinced it will.

3.6 tdv8

If I can help, read somewhere that they should be between 960 to 1400 the later indicating more fuel being used to balance.

A bit more info which might help.....

Today I extracted the suspected faulty injector in cylinder 8 and swapped it with number 5

Pleased to report the fault followed the injector.

Not sure this will assist with your issue but it does prove a faulty injector can be tracked down by moving it

Excellent so numbers on engines ie 1 to 8 are as is on iid tool interface.. I am going to take all of mine out and send for bench test, just need to carry out crued leak test first. Basically have pressure at low pump, pressure at filter both in and out side but soon as its connected to engine pressure is nothing so is a leak somewhere. If I get chance later today I am going to take return pipe of and if diesel runs back without cranking just ignition on, then I have injector internal leak or hp pump issue I reckon.

Yes that's right IID and numbers etched onto intake covers match.

Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs, but number 8 is not coming out without a fight, it will foul on the bodywork as you try to extract it.

There are various trains of thought on how to get it out. None of which are fun !
You can try to split the injector (as I did) and hope it works when you put it back (which mine didn't !)

Or you can release the engine mount and jack the engine - easier said than done !

However, I think I may have found an easy solution which I will post as a new message on this forum in case the mods want to a it to a tips library etc.

Injectors

Thanks I've removed them all and made special tool to fit on engine mount, but yeah still a really ball ache . I replaced intake manifold gaskets and wow for the small oil leak that they produced I wish I never bothered lol.
