Cat question

Doing some work to my 2012 4.4 TDV8, engine out to change the washer bottle and make the CD changer quieter. Usual stuff.

One thing that is puzzling me after talking to Daveturbo who runs two L322s, sensible chap.

The exhaust only has a Cat on the drivers side/ Bank 1 . Anyone got a clue why that is? I presume the other side has the EGR but why isn't there a Cat on both sides or aft of the manifold join.

What am I missing?

Did you ever find an answer to this? From the diagrams you sent, I agree it does look like there is only one cat on one side? I am curious now… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

2014 Audi Q7 3.0d (good riddance)

Yes I found the answer - from an Land Rover Chief Technician.

Very broadly:

the sequential turbos mean that at low revs / low heat with high emissions most of the crap comes out of the right hand side. Then when the turbos are spun up the higher temperature burns off the crap sufficiently on the left that it stays within emissions tolerances.

There is some additional magic and wizardry in the gas flows also linked to the EGR which I don't fully understand.

Separately a few of us are researching why EGR delete doesn't work on a 4.4. - I think this is linked.

.
