With the EasyBase I didn't use (or need) any extra straps.

I used to need them with my old MaxxRaxx bike carrier on my L322, but was able to thread them so they came out under the spoiler - not tried on the L405 though.

My biggest issue was finding a solution that was in stock and available
if time was not an issue i would have gone for the Thule backspace XT with tow bar attachment but these are sold out everywhere.
the only thig i could find online for delivery before the weekend was the Thule Backup

its got good reviews and ive had to buy the tow bar part as well which is not much cheaper than this part but thats what happens when you leave it to the last minute i guess. in an ideal world id have got the Thule XT box that fitted to the bike carrier (which you can move while attached and access your boot) and have something that doubled up as both

My daughter did try to suggest we take 2 cars to Cornwall instead - my missus viteo'd that!

Looked at this as an option but ruled it out due to having to haul the dog. Have decided to fit roof rails as I already have a roof box and will be fitting them tomorrow  Paul
