I had the same problem last winter - where the valve stem was corroded and snapped when I was checking the tyre pressure. Quite unnerving at the time.

All were replaced under warranty. The service chap at the dealers indicated that I was not the first to suffer this problem, and did not quibble over replacement. THe new ones have a different stem.

Notwithstanding what is written earlier, it is my understanding that new sensors have to be coded to the car. AFAIK the bit about running above a certain speed for a certain number of minutes applies to already coded wheels that have been, for example, switched to a different axle, although I stand to be corrected.

TPMS has fixed itself - magic.
Took plenty of start cycles but the finance director assures me all is well.

I spent the first 6 months of ownership with the VSE TPMS system showing a fault. It drove me potty but then I just seemed to block it out...

Eventually the fault was diagnosed as a faulty NSR sensor, which ironically is what I had pointed out in the first place from an error message that never showed again afterwards.

This is one of those options I'd happily live without. If I am driving and I get a puncture I think I will notice. Thanks. Never needed it thus far in my life and the 2 cars that had it, it played up. Worthless gizmo to me.

Ed, can I just check with you what happened.... you installed a new TPMS valve into your 08 RR and it eventually was recognised by the CPU without any programming by the dealer? In other words no dealer programming is needed for new valves?

Reason I ask is that my dealer took days trying to program a new sensor, using gallons of fuel driving up and down the road to no avail. Now it is working ok, but from what you say this has happened without the efforts of the dealer.

My next problem is that I am changing wheels and tyres (another saga in itself; downsizing from 22 to 20) and the indy broke 2 valve stems. I can buy two new sensors, but the question is: should I just change the valve stems so that I use my existing sensors that are already programmed into the vehicle, or can I just put in the 2 new sensors and they will eventually be picked up by the CPU.

Thanks, any inputs appreciated

They are self configuring - no dealer input required - after 10 minutes or so of driving, the car should recognise the new valves.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in response but yes, no dealer input. The car was driven around a few times and suffice to say it did not reprogramme instantly but give her a week or so and it should!
Best of luck,

OK I'll bung in the new sensors, Thanks for your reply. Agree with the view that these things are more Censored trouble than they're worth.

I guess they are charging you for driving round until they are recognised....

Maybe just push them a bit and ask them what 'reprogramming' entails ?

I just swapped my wheels for a new set complete with new TPMS valves.

The first 15 minutes driving showed no faults, but then the ECU obviously sent the error message to the dash and now the blinking light is on again. Censored

I have tried endless driving over 12mph for over 15 minutes, even been to Manchester and back and it STILL hasn't reset itself. Big Cry

TPMS is just a total bag of Shat if you ask me. I don't want to take it to the damned Dealer just to get a light switched off. Censored

Does anyone have a DIY option that's better than me sticking a piece of black tape over the light so I can't see it anymore? Shocked Discovery 4 HSE

Could you pull the fuse supplying the TPMS to 'reset' the system, then try again with getting the system to recognise the new sensors?

Worth a try?
