Thoughts on 55 profile tyres.

I've just managed to get a decent set of 10 spoke original wheels but they are fitted with nearly new 55 profile Pirelli scorpion Verde tyres instead of the standard 50 profile. My old wheels are fitted with nearly new Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/50/20 tyres which handled great under all situations wet and dry.
With the new wheels and tyres, correctly inflated, I didn't expect the ride to be so 'mushy' and in the wet they tram line on tarmac seams and white lines!!
Just wondered what other members have experienced as I have read many have gone to the 55 profile.
Thanks Kev.

I’ve got 255/55/20 General Grabber AT3’s fitted on mine and I think the ride is better, fills the wheel arch better and more side wall for protection as I use mine for green laning.

I have been running 255 55 20 Verde all seasons on B.B. for a couple of years and have been very pleased with them
They seem to ride well in all road conditions, and are excellent in slushy snow.
The only downside I would mention is the difficulty fitting a fully inflated wheel in the spare wheel well. It goes in just !,

Sc Verde seem more prone to tramlining, my 275/45R21 do it, I think it is caused by the lateral grooves. Sc Zeros didn't do it on my 2004 322. So it's maybe more about tread pattern than sidewall depth. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks for the replies. CS, my thoughts exactly with the tread pattern.

I have the same size and tyre on my l322. Decent overall there I’d say and agree with the tramlining

My only comment on the verde in 55 profile is that they look big for the car and make the wheel look small - 50 profile suits the car better visually IMO 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)
2005 4.8iS X5, blue/black
2011 4.4 tdv8, black/black (gone)
2003 3.0d X5, Oxford green/black/manual
2021 p575 SVR, BR green/vintage tan

Gonna see how they feel towing the caravan this weekend but I agree they look too big. I think I will put the Zero's back on because I like how they look. Thanks Kev.
